Authenticity

Opened in 2015, the small boutique hotel features rustic bungalows with a bohemian aesthetic, thatched roofing, plank wood floors, and stone, metal, and glass details, reminiscent of the old Tamarindo. The on-site Ocho Beach Club, which opened a few years later, adds to the local vibe with its beachfront location, traditional fare (and international) offerings, and live music.

Location

You'll find Ocho Artisan Bungalows right on the beach, and just a few minutes walk from the center of Tamarindo. You can easily visit local restaurants and shops, and grocery stores and markets, though other highlights require a car or transfer. Getting to Playa Grande, for example, takes about 40 minutes. Keep in mind that online directions take you to the property's restaurant/bar, and the hotel entrance is via a pathway off the main street, Calle Cardinal.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Though right in the center of Tamarindo, the hotel feels a bit hidden, with just seven bungalows and two beachfront villas enclosed by jungle vegetation and facing the beach. All units are independent—so you won't share any walls with your neighbors. Sleeping up to six guests, you'll have multiple beds, a complimentary minibar, furnished terraces, beach towels, air-conditioning, and a kitchenette with all the basic cooking essentials. The decor is a little quirky at times, though the villas offer fun perks like an outdoor daybed and shower. Secure a two or three-bedroom Beachfront Villa for beachfront views, outdoor showers, and spacious living areas.

Amenities

Though open to the public and day guests, the bar, restaurant, and beach club are nice options if you're looking for fun and energetic evenings on the shore. Reservations are recommended in the evenings. Daily buffet breakfast, included in the room rate, is served at the Ocho Beach Club. There's also an outdoor pool area with a fountain, sun loungers, and day beds, with direct access to the beach. There's no on-site spa, but the hotel can arrange for massage services in your room. The property isn't fully accessible, and travelers with limited mobility may want to consider other lodging options in the area. 

Family-Friendliness

The hotel allows children of all ages, and the Ocho Beach Club has a children's menu available. Families will want to book one of the villas, which come in either two or three-bedroom configurations. Some travelers have found the property to be a little too noisy at night for children, as the adjacent Ocho Beach Club keeps the party going late into the evening. 

Wildlife

Travelers have spotted a wide range of wildlife from their bungalows, including howler monkeys, iguanas, and common Costa Rican birds such as hummingbirds and parrots. The hotel's Ocho Beach Club has direct views of the coastline and you may be able to spot several turtle species that nest on the Tamarindo beaches.
