Pacific Kalokairi, Tamarindo
Intimate adults-only retreat with modern cabin-style rooms, an infinity pool, a renowned on-site restaurant, and panoramic ocean and jungle views
Overview
Kimkim's Take

- This secluded retreat offers just eight private cabin-style rooms, situated in elevated positions for panoramic jungle or ocean views.
- Each room features airy, modern interiors of wood, steel, and glass, air-conditioning, WiFi, rain-style showers, coffee machines, and private terraces.
- The central infinity pool is surrounded by sun loungers, hammocks, and a poolside snack bar.
- The small open-air spa includes hot and cold massage pools and a menu of wellness treatments like massages and facials.
- Enjoy innovative Spanish/Costa Rican-inspired fusion dishes at the on-site restaurant.
- You'll need to book ahead due to the small amount of available rooms and the hotel's popularity.
- There aren't mosquito screens in the rooms.
- The location in the hills above Tamarindo means you'll need a car or a shuttle to get to town and the nearby beaches.
Authenticity
Pacific Kalokairi calls itself a "luxury eco-hotel," but this intimate retreat with just eight separate cabin-style units feels even more exclusive than that. The gated property is tucked in the hills above Tamarindo, and you'll likely be greeted upon arrival by Charlie, the resident black lab. Everything is thoughtfully designed to immerse you in the surrounding nature, and you'll fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of chirping birds and howling monkeys.
Location
The property is nestled in the quiet hills just above bustling Tamarindo, perfectly positioned for ocean views and colorful sunsets. It's less than a 10-minute drive from the town's local markets, restaurants, and beaches. A free shuttle service is available to and from town most days, but you'll likely want a car to enjoy a stay here. There's free private parking available on-site, and the closest international airport is Liberia, about a two-hour drive north.
Rooms & Bathrooms
Pacific Kalokairi's eight private cabins are built into the hillside with a stilted design to maximize the ocean or jungle views. Each open-plan steel, wood, and glass structure is airy and modern, with all the mod-cons of a luxury hotel. You'll find king platform-style beds under high ceilings, sliding glass walls that lead onto small private terraces, and modern bathrooms with rainfall-style showers and eco-friendly toiletries. Air-conditioning, WiFi, and streaming services are included, as are pod-style coffee machines and minifridges.
Amenities
The property's infinity pool forms the central hub, surrounded by sun loungers, hammocks, and a poolside snack bar. Nearby, a small open-air spa offers hot and cold pools and massage treatments upon request. The on-site restaurant also overlooks the pool, with glass walls that open onto a terrace with spectacular sunset views come evening. The creative menu is innovative and modern, showcasing local produce and seafood, and you can order lighter tapas-style dishes or opt for a memorable 14-course tasting menu experience. Breakfast is included in the rate, and includes fresh fruit, homemade jams, and a selection of made-to-order dishes.
Family-Friendliness
This is an adults-only property, with a minimum age of 18.
