Overview
Kimkim's Take
- You'll be right in the middle of Porto's historic center, with an address on the vibrant Rua das Flores.
- The building is steeped in historic charm, with stone archways and soaring ceilings offset with contemporary decor.
- An optional breakfast buffet is laid out daily, and the on-site restaurant serves Portuguese small plates and entrees alongside a nice selection of local wines.
- The peaceful indoor pool and sauna are excellent ways to decompress after a day exploring Porto's hilly streets.
- Rua das Flores is a pedestrian street, so pick-up and drop-off of luggage requires coordination with your driver.
- There's no on-site parking, but a public lot is just around the corner.
- The smallest rooms are quite compact, though the decor and layout still feel luxe.
- The street can get busy and boisterous during summer months, so opt for a courtyard-facing room for more quiet.
Authenticity
Pousada do Porto - Rua das Flores occupies a grand 18th-century building on one of the city's oldest streets. Step inside the historic facade, and you'll find contemporary design complementing original features like rough stone walls, soaring ceilings, and herringbone floors. The decor gives a nod to the address with carved plaster camellias, floral wallpaper, and rippling wooden walls that create a feeling of organic movement. Art pieces include a permanent collection of local sculpture and photography, while the buzzy on-site restaurant draws resident Portuenses for its modern take on traditional northern dishes.
Location
Situated on the pedestrian-only Rua das Flores, the hotel sits within Porto's historic district. The 500-year-old street is known for its lively atmosphere and plentiful restaurants and cafés, and it's steps from the medieval alleys of Ribeira and a 5-minute walk from city landmarks like the São Bento train station, the Sé do Porto cathedral, and the Livraria Lello bookstore. A 10-minute stroll takes you to the riverfront, where you can cross the Dom Luís I bridge to Gaia for port wine cellars and some of the best views in the city. There's no hotel parking, but a public paid lot is just a 3-minute walk around the corner.
Rooms & Bathrooms
Even the smallest of the hotel's 80+ rooms are beautifully appointed, with rippled wooden headboards, plush velvet accents in shades of teal and chartreuse, and marble-clad bathrooms with walk-in showers. Superior rooms overlooking the sunny inner courtyard offer the quietest experience, while the larger Deluxe City View rooms have charming balconies overlooking the boisterous Rua das Flores. Superior Family or Junior Suite options are the most spacious, with separate living areas and room for three guests.
Amenities
The hotel's P Gastro Bar is a highlight, popular with locals for its menu of elevated Portuguese fare that showcases locally sourced seafood and produce. Its lovely setting on the ground floor feels relaxed and convivial, with plush banquettes, original stone arches, and tables spilling out into the pretty courtyard. You'll also find a sleek indoor pool complete with a waterfall feature and sauna on the ground floor, as well as a fitness center.Like what you see?

My biggest disappointment was the hotel in Porto. Our room was in the basement, incredibly cramped, with no closet, just shelves with a curtain. The bathroom door didn’t close properly and had to be left open. The TV was awkwardly placed, and we kept bumping into it. There was also no room to store our suitcases. Repeated requests to change rooms were declined. The only consolation offered was a small bottle of wine.
Our stay at Pousada Porto—Rua das Flores was excellent. The hotel was in a prime location, especially during the St. John's Festival. The breakfast was fantastic, and the dinner we had there was delicious. The room was a bit small but very clean, and we spent most of our time outside, so it didn't matter much. The staff was polite, and we enjoyed the overall experience despite the room size.
The reception staff when we were there let us down a couple times - they were distracted, and made careless restaurant suggestions. Which is a strong reason to get friendly with locals and other travelers. Read more
