Pousada Porto—Rua das Flores, Porto

Kimkim team favorite · 4.4 (16 reviews) · Comfort
Historic 18th-century building with chic and modern rooms, an indoor pool and spa, and a restaurant

Overview

Stay on one of Porto's most picturesque and famous streets in the historic Pousada Porto, housed in an 18th-century building. You'll stay right on Rua das Flores, a pedestrian street established during the 16th century and filled with centuries-old former homes of aristocrats and artisans' workshops, now turned into high-end shops, restaurants, and cafés. The street gets packed in the summer, but you can take advantage of its central location to explore nearby sites like Torre dos Clérigos, Sé Cathedral, and the historic center of Ribeira, all just over five minutes away.

The hotel infuses a modern design into its historic space, which has retained details like vaulted ceilings and stone walls. The 80+ rooms are contemporary, with geometric light fixtures, wooden furnishings, and sleek marble bathrooms. Most rooms are doubles, although there's a family option with a sofa bed to sleep up to four. Since some may find rooms to feel a bit tight, consider booking a Junior Suite for more space. Views look out either over the Rua das Flores or the interior courtyard, which may offer more peace and quiet since Rua das Flores is a popular spot during the summer.

The common facilities, in particular, highlight the building's history, as you can cozy up in the lobby lounge under 18th-century stone arches. Grab a bite at the P Gastro Bar with its chic inside that spills onto the street, where you can take in the sights and sounds of Rua das Flores. There's also an indoor heated pool and sauna where you can relax. While the hotel's prime location on this pedestrian street means that there's no parking, those with cars can make use of a nearby parking lot that offers special rates to guests.

My biggest disappointment was the hotel in Porto. Our room was in the basement, incredibly cramped, with no closet, just shelves with a curtain. The bathroom door didn’t close properly and had to be left open. The TV was awkwardly placed, and we kept bumping into it. There was also no room to store our suitcases. Repeated requests to change rooms were declined. The only consolation offered was a small bottle of wine.

Our stay at Pousada Porto—Rua das Flores was excellent. The hotel was in a prime location, especially during the St. John's Festival. The breakfast was fantastic, and the dinner we had there was delicious. The room was a bit small but very clean, and we spent most of our time outside, so it didn't matter much. The staff was polite, and we enjoyed the overall experience despite the room size.

We liked the location near shops and restaurants. Transport services need to know that they can access the hotel although it is on a pedestrian road.

Pousada Porto-Rua das Flores was very comfortable. Rooms were small but nicely appointed - every bit of space was well utilized. Hotel was well located which made it easy to walk all over the city.
The reception staff when we were there let us down a couple times - they were distracted, and made careless restaurant suggestions. Which is a strong reason to get friendly with locals and other travelers.
