Sendero Hotel, Nosara
Chic and tranquil boutique hotel offering stylish rooms, a superb restaurant, and an in-house surf school.
Overview
Kimkim's Take
- The hotel is situated near the 5-mile (8 km) stretch of Playa Guiones, part of the Ostional Turtle Refuge, offering a serene beach experience.
- You'll stay in spaces featuring relaxed designs and natural materials to reflect the surrounding beauty.
- Surf enthusiasts will appreciate the hotel's surf school, board rentals, and in-water photography services.
- Take your meals at the on-site restaurant Talise, which fuses traditional cuisine with upscale dining.
- The family suite option makes it an ideal choice for travelers with children.
- The hotel has recently added three villas which offer more room, kitchenettes, and private pools.
- The hotel is still working on perfecting its breakfast offerings, according to recent travelers.
- There's no spa or gym available on-site at the hotel.
- The hotel is self-described as "adult-oriented" with limited catering toward families, though they've worked to alleviate this by adding several villas to the property.
Authenticity
Sendero is a boutique hotel in Nosara that embraces its natural surroundings by incorporating relaxed silhouettes, muted palettes, and earthy materials into its design. The hotel's 25 stylish rooms, suites, and newly added villas are designed to reflect the simplicity of life in Nosara, allowing you to connect with the area's natural beauty and the local community.
Location
You'll be just a short five-minute walk away from the white sands of Playa Guiones. As part of the protected Ostional Turtle Refuge, the beach remains serene and unspoiled, with no buildings within 650 feet (200 m) of the shoreline. The area offers a refreshing departure from the norm, revolving around an active lifestyle and fostering connections with both nature and each other. Surfing, swimming, and yoga are popular activities in Nosara, and the beach is a gathering spot for the community at sunset.
Rooms & Bathrooms
Sendero offers 25 stylish rooms, suites, and villas that use natural tones, textures, and materials to channel the relaxed and serene nature of the Nosara region. Built-in closets, glass walls, private patios, plant life, and partial outdoor rainfall showers all bring style, comfort, and peace to your stay. For more space, upgrade to one of the newly built villas, offering kitchenettes and private pools.
Wildlife
Located centrally in Nosara, the hotel has somewhat limited wildlife viewing opportunities due to the urban setting. You'll have the best chance of spotting wildlife on the trail to the beach, where previous travelers have spotted monkeys, coatis, and colorful birds and butterflies. Once on the beach, you'll have the rare opportunity to spot Olive Ridley Turtles, which come to nest in the protected Ostional Wildlife Refuge.
Amenities
Sendero is a beautifully designed hotel, but the boutique nature limits the on-site amenities. There's no gym or spa on-site, though guests can access spa services at an adjacent partnered location. The central freeform pool is a highlight of the property, with an encircling wooden deck that provides comfortable spots to lounge amid the carefully curated and lush courtyard gardens. Due to being one of the newer hotels in Nosara, Sendero is an excellent option for guests with limited mobility, as it has fully accessible King rooms available that meet modern ADA standards.
Family-Friendliness
While the hotel allows children of all ages, it advertises itself as an "adult-oriented" property that isn't really designed to cater to children. However, the property recently added seven villas that are much more family-friendly, offering multiple bedrooms, kitchenettes, and private pools. If you choose to stay at the hotel with kids, you'll definitely want to stay in one of the villas, as the other rooms are more oriented toward adult friends and couples.
Other Highlights
If you're in the area for its surf, the hotel offers beginner surf lessons and surfboard rentals, plus in-water surf photography. The on-site restaurant Talise is a popular spot with locals and guests alike, with past Kimkim travelers praising its amazing architecture and design. The hotel also offers a yoga room and bike rentals so you can get around town easily.
