Intimate adult-only mountain resort offering a small pool, spa treatments, a complimentary beach shuttle, and a restaurant.

Overview

Located amid the mountains in Nosara, Tierra Magnifica offers a tranquil getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. This boutique adult-only hotel, established in 2015, offers a prime location with views of the rainforests and Pacific Ocean. You'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature, with an outdoor pool, walking trails, as well as yoga and meditation decks. The beach and in-town activities are easily accessed within a 10-minute drive.

Pros

  • All rooms at the hotel have ocean views.
  • The hotel is very intimate, with a small number of rooms spread out across several adjacent buildings.
  • There's an intentional focus on being immersed in nature, so many of the hotel's design choices and amenities are designed to let you unplug and unwind.

Cons

  • None of the rooms come with TVs.
  • The pool can get crowded as it's very small relative to the number of hotel guests.
  • There's not much else around the hotel, so you'll need to arrange for taxis to access Nosara's activities and beaches.

Authenticity

Situated on a hillside, the hotel feels like it's floating in the tropical canopy, creating an environment that embodies Costa Rica's natural beauty. The rooms are decorated to match the surrounding rainforest, featuring native potted plants, palm fronds, raw wood banisters, and earthy linens. Daily outdoor yoga classes, a meditation deck, and nature trails are all available, allowing you to feel fully immersed in the natural surroundings.

Location

Tierra Magnifica sits on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with Nosara's city center and Playa Guiones, known for its vibrant shops and restaurants, just a short 10-minute drive away. For travelers interested in unique wildlife encounters, the Ostional Wildlife Reserve is a few minutes north of town.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Tierra Magnifica has just a handful of rooms, all designed with a modern flair while still maintaining the natural beauty of the surrounding region. Each unit is individually decorated and features private balconies with a panoramic view of the ocean and jungle. The hotel's Master Suite is a luxuriously appointed room, while the Vista Suites and Vista Rooms offer spacious but simpler accommodations. For a more secluded experience, the Brisa rooms, nestled on the edge of the jungle, offer a unique treehouse-like ambience. The bathrooms are an unusual highlight as they have extra large windows, allowing you to enjoy the fresh air and downhill views as you shower.

Wildlife

Sweeping hillside views make it easy to spot local wildlife from your room's balcony. Howler monkeys, iguanas, exotic birds, and colorful butterflies are commonly seen at the hotel. Keep your eyes out while enjoying one of the outdoor amenities, such as the nature trails or meditation decks, for additional opportunities to spot wildlife. As an extra bonus, the beaches in the area provide the rare opportunity to spot nesting Olive Ridley Turtles and their young offspring.

Amenities

The hotel provides a host of amenities, including a spa, with massages, facials, and body treatments in a serene environment. There's a small pool located in the center of the property, though it can get a bit crowded. With a focus on experiencing Costa Rica's nature, the hotel has several options for you to enjoy the outdoors, including a yoga area, meditation decks, and nature trails. You'll also have access to complimentary laundry service and consistent, strong WiFi throughout the hotel's grounds. Several accessible rooms are available for travelers with limited mobility.

Family-Friendliness

The hotel is an adult-only property with a minimum age of 15. If you're traveling with older teenagers, the Master Suite connects to the Brisa Double Queen room, hosting up to seven people. Smaller families can use the Vista Double King Suite, which sleeps up to four. There are no amenities or activities offered for children, so any older teenagers will be treated like regular adult guests.

Other Highlights

The hotel's restaurant, Huacas, serves traditional Costa Rican cuisine and international fare, accommodating all dietary restrictions. You can enjoy meals and signature cocktails in an open-air dining area that overlooks the jungles and ocean or take in the views at the small pool area. The hotel also provides a complimentary beach shuttle service, so you can more easily reach the surf and sand of Playa Pelada, Nosara Beach, and Garza Beach.
