Sir Joan Hotel, Ibiza

Pros

• The hotel's outdoor pool area is a great place to relax and cool off during the day but has a fun, lively vibe in the evenings with the occasional music event.
• All rooms feature a private balcony, and although the decor is a little dark and moody (not quite bohemian Ibiza), you'll enjoy locally made toiletries and luxury bedding. 
• If you want to splurge, you can book a penthouse suite with a rooftop terrace, seating area, and double balconies.
• The two on-site restaurants have cool vibes and good food, one being a casual burger place called The Butcher and the other a Japanese restaurant. 
• Of all the hotels in Ibiza Town, this one is closest to the city's Talamanca Beach, just a 20-minute walk.

Cons

• The location isn't the best, as you'll be on a busy roundabout at least 10 minutes from the lively and atmospheric parts of Ibiza Town (and 25 minutes from the castle). 

Additional Notes From Ash 

I was on the fence about visiting this hotel, as some reviews felt a bit disappointing for a 5-star luxury property. Mostly, it's the lodging's location, which isn't convenient for strolling around Ibiza's charming Old Town or creating a quiet, relaxing environment. But putting aside those factors, I was very impressed with the hotel. The overall design and ambiance are incredibly comfortable and natural, so it was easy to forget the so-so location once I stepped inside.

Authenticity

Sir Joan Hotel calls itself a free-spirited yet modern "retreat," which channels Ibiza's reputation for parties and bohemian vibes in a luxury setting. Though the rooms don't quite hit the mark—they feel a bit too modern—the hotel certainly offers that type of environment with its common areas and eateries. Plus, enjoy unique elements like floors made with stripped wood from old yachts and art and books by local Spanish artists.  

Location

Sir Joan Hotel is directly between Ibiza's Old Town and the ferry dock. Inside the hotel feels quiet, but keep in mind that you'll be on a busy double roundabout and at least a 10-minute walk from the action, so the location might not work for everyone. Plan to take a taxi or walk 25 minutes to the Castle of Ibiza, and the nearest beach, Playa de Talamanca, is a 20-minute stroll. 

Rooms & Bathrooms

The rooms are comfortable and relaxing, though they feel dark without those relaxing bohemian vibes. Still, all rooms are clean and include private balconies, local toiletries, luxury bedding, and spacious bathrooms with rainfall showerheads. Upgraded units add little extras like bathrobes and slippers, lounge areas, an additional balcony, complimentary parking, and bike rentals. Grab a penthouse room for more space and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of Ibiza Town.

The common spaces are a highlight at Sir Joan Hotel. The outdoor pool, with its on-site eatery, feels like the place to be, though you can also grab burgers at The Butcher restaurant and sip drinks in the cozy bar lounge.
