Kimkim's Take

Pros
  • The convenient location in downtown San José puts landmarks like the National Museum of Costa Rica and the Teatro Nacional within easy walking distance.
  • Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with options for adjoining and family suites.
  • The complimentary breakfast buffet serves both American and Costa Rican-style dishes plus hot options.
Cons
  • There's no pool or hot tub on-site.
  • The adjoining casino and 24-hour restaurant can get loud in the evenings.
  • Past guests have found the interior decor bit dated and tired.

Authenticity

Built in 2005, the Sleep Inn Hotel Paseo Las Damas is a simple, modern offering from the large Choice Hotels brand. You won't find much in the way of ambience here, but the convenient city center location and the reliable amenities and service make it a popular stopover for travelers on their Costa Rican travels. The earth-toned decor gives a few nods to its surroundings with tropical-patterned textiles and floral artwork, but overall, the interiors feel a bit dated and nondescript—though the plentiful fresh flowers throughout the rooms and common areas are a nice touch.

Location

Located just opposite the leafy Parque España, the hotel has a convenient location for exploring downtown San José. A short walk will take you to most of the downtown's attractions, including the Jade Museum, the National Museum of Costa Rica, and the Municipal Craft Market. The Metropolitan Cathedral, the Teatro Nacional, and the green spaces of Parque Nacional are within a 10-minute walk, and you'll find plenty of restaurants and shops in the surrounding areas. It's a straightforward 40-minute drive to the Juan Santamaría International Airport, and the hotel offers plentiful free parking on-site.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The air-conditioned rooms are basic but comfortable, with options for two double beds or one king. You'll find amenities like free WiFi, minifridges, and coffee makers in each, and the decor and furnishings feature a neutral palette of soft browns and taupes. Each room includes a work desk and chair, and the bathrooms offer a bathtub/shower combo, large mirrors, and complimentary toiletries. Adjoining and accessible rooms are available, and all floors are reached via elevator.

Amenities

A complimentary breakfast buffet is served on the ground floor in a bright space with murals of San José, and nearby, you'll find a gift shop and newsstand, as well as a lounge area with a bar serving wine, beer, and cocktails. An outdoor terrace area overlooks the neighboring park, and there's a small 24-hour fitness center with equipment like weights and treadmills. Opposite the hotel is an adjoining casino and restaurant, which guests have noted can get loud in the evenings.

Family-Friendliness

Families are welcome at the Sleep Inn Hotel Paseo Las Damas. Children 12 and under stay free using existing bedding, and cribs are available upon request. Larger king suites include an extra sofa bed, and adjoining rooms are available for larger groups. The hotel's location overlooking two parks is handy for little ones needing space to run around.

This hotel is in a great location!
The 2 beds were too small for 2 people per bed. They should have been queen size beds.
