Pros
  • You'll have a fantastic Tamarindo Beach, ocean, and sunset view from the hotel's hillside location.
  • Your stay includes access to a private beach club that is outfitted with cabanas and offers guests gym access.
  • Sip cocktails from the swim-up bar without ever having to get out of the infinity pool.
  • Spacious rooms feature private balconies with ocean views, providing plenty of natural light.
  • You can enjoy a breakfast buffet (included in the room rate), lunch, and dinner from the on-site restaurant.
Cons
  • Wyndham Tamarindo is a bit remote, so a complimentary shuttle (runs hourly) or cab ride is required to access town amenities.
  • With only manicured tropical gardens, wildlife sightings are limited to birds.

Authenticity

Wyndham Tamarindo offers a modern, tropical design that combines wood and stone to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The hotel was renovated in 2019 after being acquired by Wyndham, giving it a fresh and contemporary feel while it leverages its open-air lobby and infinity pool overlooking the ocean. As a chain, the hotel doesn't have a strong focus on authenticity or historical elements; it does incorporate a few local dishes into its lunch and dinner menu, though.

Location

Perched on a hillside, Wyndham Tamarindo provides stunning views of the ocean and downtown Tamarindo. Although it's not walkable to the town or beach, the hotel offers an hourly shuttle service to its beach club near downtown, making it convenient to explore the area. It's just a 5-minute walk from the beach club to downtown, where you'll find numerous restaurants, cafés, and grocery stores. And, of course, being atop the hill means you'll enjoy some of the best sunset views in Tamarindo. If you're traveling with a rental, there are plenty of self-parking options.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Wyndham Tamarindo offers two types of what it calls "concept rooms," Standard and Premium. All are spacious and airy, with large windows allowing plenty of natural light and a private balcony facing the ocean. The rooms have a modern tropical design and include eco-friendly products in the bright, modern bathrooms. The Premium option offers additional amenities (as well as more space), including cozy robes, slippers, and a larger TV.

Amenities

One of the main highlights of Wyndham Tamarindo is the large infinity pool in front of the reception area. This pool offers truly memorable coastline views and features a swim-up bar where you can order your drink of choice. You can also relax at the property's beach club, complete with another pool, cabanas, and a gym. The hotel's restaurant serves various international and local dishes, and its bar offers a selection of tropical cocktails, beers, and wines. Head to the spa for a massage or facial treatment for even more relaxation.

Family-Friendliness

Wyndham Tamarindo is well-suited for families with its large rooms that can accommodate up to four and options for rollaway beds and cribs upon request. Connected rooms are available for families needing extra space. The hotel is stroller-friendly, and elevators provide easy access to rooms and amenities. There's also a kids' pool for a safe spot for young children to enjoy the water.

Wildlife

Although the hotel is surrounded by tropical gardens, wildlife sightings are primarily limited to birds due to the lack of large trees on the property.

The Wyndham had a great location with a nice view over the city and beach. However, they routinely ran out of towels, both for rooms and the beach. At times, the rooms weren't serviced even after requesting housekeeping.

This hotel was awesome! We loved that we were in a secluded place with incredible views but also had access to downtown and the beach club for free with the hourly shuttle. Views at the pool can’t be beat. Read more

The hotel is on a hill over looking the ocean. They offer an hourly shuttle but only to two different inconvenient locations. Also because it faces west for the incredible view there is no shade around the pool. The bed was very comfortable but the only covering was a very thick comforter so I asked for a lighter cover and they brought another heavy comforter. Read more
