What you'll do

Start the day with a pick-up at your hotel in La Fortuna, then transfer to the starting point of your adventure within Arenal Volcano National Park. Here you'll meet your guide, receive your safety instructions, and grab your necessary equipment before hopping aboard an open-air gondola for a scenic ride along an aerial tramway. Ascend a mountain slope, enjoying panoramic views of the cloud forest en route, and take some time to walk around the summit. Make sure to grab a photo at the Mano del Arenal (Hand of Arenal), a famous lookout point where a giant sculpture of a hand emerges from the earth.

Next, it's time to connect to the first zipline cable and start your exhilarating journey downhill. You'll ride on seven different zipline cables as you descend, whizzing above the cloud forest canopy and reaching heights of 660 feet (201 m). From this bird's-eye perspective, you'll take in panoramic views of the Arenal volcano and Lago Arenal and glimpse remarkable flora and fauna in the treetops.

Your cloud forest experience winds down with a leisurely 2-mile (3 km) guided hike along the park's nature trails and five hanging bridges, some of which are suspended a lofty 230 feet (70 m) above ground. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating facts and insights about the park's biodiverse plant and animal life and how it varies by elevation. After skirting two dramatic waterfalls and braving a final uphill climb, it's time to say your goodbyes and join your driver for the transfer back to your La Fortuna hotel.

Very fun zipline with a great sky walk adventure! The only reason for 4 stars was that our Zipline portion didn't start until 1.5 hours after arriving (due to long lines?) and we missed our initial sky walk time. We were easily accommodated and attended a later Sky Walk which we enjoyed.

Tips for future travelers

Allow extra time in case you don't start on time. Also the ziplines move FAST and end hard so keep that in mind if you think it will be a problem for you. The sky walk was not difficult hiking but very highly recommend going with a guide vs on your own. We would have missed a LOT had we tried to do it on our own.

I really didn’t know if I would like zip lining because I do not love heights, but this was truly a special experience. Not surprisingly, we went on a very rainy day, but the first zip lines at the top of the mountain felt like flying into nothingness…we went right through the clouds. Lower on the mountain, one of the last zip lines passes through a tunnel of rain forest trees. We felt safe throughout our experience. Read more

Be prepared for rain. It was surprisingly cold on the mountain,
