Casa do Río Wine Hotel, Douro Valley
Peaceful boutique hotel with modern rooms, clear river views, an outdoor pool, and a restaurant
Overview
The hotel is built across a gorge and blends into the landscape. There are just under 10 rooms and suites, which are modern, cozy, and bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies overlooking the river and rolling hills of the valley. Each room has a fireplace, a great addition in the winter, and a contemporary style of earthy tones and minimalist furniture adds to the space's warmth. Suites include small private pools and bathtubs for extra relaxation. This adults-only hotel is open to guests 12 and above, so it's best for couples or friends looking for a quiet oasis getaway.
Hop on one of the bicycles the hotel provides or take a spin in the property's boat, kayaks, or paddle boats. This part of the Douro Valley is known as terra quente or "hot land" because of its scorching temperatures in the summer, so take a dip in the infinity pool overlooking the river to cool off during the high season. The restaurant offers simple fare for lunch and goes all out for dinner, where you can sample some of the region's best dishes. Of course, you can try some wine too, and if that's what you're here for, you can take part in one of the regular Quinto do Vallado wine tastings.
