Fosshotel Hellnar, Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Fosshotel Hellnar is a remote property just a 25-minute drive from the Snæfellsjökull Glacier. This glacier is one of the most famous in Iceland, as it's where the characters find an entrance to the Earth's core in Jules Vernes' "Journey to the Center of the Earth." Some of Iceland's most epic natural attractions are within easy reach. Snæfellsjökull National Park, one of the country's three national parks, is just a 30-minute drive away. Arnarstapi, a former fishing hub whose beach is home to the fantastic Gatklettur natural stone arch, is a 5-minute drive.

The 39 rooms are simple and basic, differing in view and size. If you're booking a Standard Room, consider one with an ocean view, as you might spot whales. A Superior Double is twice as big and includes a view either of Faxaflói bay or Snæfellsjökull Glacier. Families can spread out in the Triple Room, which overlooks Mount Stafafell or Faxaflói bay. Bathrooms include standing showers. Some previous Kimkim travelers have found that if you're in need of strong WiFi, book a room closer to the center of the building. The hotel includes a restaurant with tasty local cuisine and a sea view.
