Cozy countryside hotel with modern rooms, panoramic mountain views, a restaurant and a well-known café

Overview

Hótel Snæfellsnes is a family-run countryside hotel offering a cozy and modern stay on the eastern part of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This remote location is just a 1.5-hour drive from Reykjavík, and you can conveniently explore the peninsula's famed sites from this base. The fishing village of Arnarstapi, with its natural stone arch Gatklettur, is just 40 minutes away, and Snæfellsjökull National Park is an hour away.

The rooms are designed in a warm contemporary style with soft linens from an Icelandic brand and neutral tones and colors that evoke the surrounding landscape. There are two room types here: Doubles and Triples, making this perfect for couples, friends, or families. Accessible options are also available for those with limited mobility. All rooms include panoramic views of the Elliðatindar mountain range and the hotel's remote position makes it perfect for seeing the northern lights.

Locals and hotel guests alike are fans of Hótel Snæfellsnes' on-site restaurant and coffee shop. The hotel manager bakes fresh bread and cakes daily and the restaurant works with local farmers and producers to create a tasty menu of Icelandic cuisine.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel provided breakfast was amazing. There is a cafe attached to the dining area where they offer espresso, pastries, sandwiches. We had the best coffee on our trip in their cafe (Cortado). Highly recommend getting one of their cafe drinks. There is not much around this area to choose from a hotel, but our rooms were clean and open. The room temperature was a little warm, but we cracked the window to keep the air circulating. The room was on the smaller side, but I expected that. The bathroom was a bit dated and could use an update. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. We ate at the onsite restaurant and had one of the specials and it was AMAZING. Some of the best fish we've ever had. Overall pleasant experience and we would stay here again.
