Hotel Las Torres Patagonia, Torres del Paine

4.5 (11 reviews) · Comfort
Rustic ranch-turned-hotel with mountain views, a cozy restaurant, and access to hiking trails

Overview

Located at the start of the W Trek, Hotel Las Torres Patagonia offers a convenient base for those wanting to explore Torres del Paine. This family-run property is a former ranch built by the owners' Croatian ancestors, who first arrived in Patagonia in 1905. The rustic buildings both reflect the local culture and integrate with the landscape in this remote location that's just one minute from the beginning of the W Trek, as well as a number of other trails. Sites like Lake Sarmiento are 15 minutes away by car, and the closest major hub of Puerto Natales is two hours away.

The hotel first opened with nine rooms in 1990 and has since expanded to 84 country-style rooms and suites with light wooden furniture, large windows, and warm textiles. Superior rooms look out over the mountains or Pampas and can sleep up to four people on multiple beds. Junior Suites are the largest options and sleep two, with clear views of the Paine Massif. Bathrooms include showers and tubs. Rooms do not include amenities such as fridges or coffee and tea makers, but there's a cozy restaurant on the property with wooden features and sweeping views.

The hotel is certainly pricey, but its location in the park was well worth the money. We could walk out the front door and immediately start trekking. It was also a warm and welcoming place to rest after a long day of adventures! Our reservation was "half-board," and the breakfasts and dinners were exceptional. Every staff member we encountered went out of their way to be helpful. Read more

We loved the accommodations and all of our excursions in the park during our all-inclusive stay at Hotel Las Torres, but were disappointed by their lack of flexibility for vegetarian and vegan diets. They were totally unwilling to make any menu changes for us (such as making a plate of gnocchi with red sauce or serving us a side of french fries, despite all of the ingredients being available with meat-based dishes), so we had to eat the same couple of meals over and over. Given that there is nowhere else to get food while you are staying in the park (and Chile is very strict in what you can bring over the border if you are coming from Argentina), this made for a less than ideal all-inclusive experience.

For the most part the hotel staff and excursion guides were great, but the restaurant staff was totally unwilling to make accommodations for dietary restrictions.

Both before planning our trip and while we were at the hotel, they didn't seem to know what was going on. When we had questions about hikes, or the national park, the referred us to the "excursions" desk in another part of the hotel. The people selling excursions would really only help with things they sold, and even at that, didn't provide accurate info. Finally, the hotel was pretty expensive and we thought they would be more helpful, "I don't know the answer, but let me find it for you". was not in their vocabulary. They also Forgot to give us our 1st day box lunch, even though we asked for it, and two times gave us inaccurate bills in the restaurant.

Authenticity & Character
Estancia feeling. Loved the daily horses release and round up.
Location
Right on the track to the towers base, W & O.
Staff
Tried hard - many new, inexperienced staff - lots of mistakes made and service forgets.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Bedding divine. Big rooms. Views expansive but not stunning. Bath was great after a hike - but had to request a plug.
