Hotel Romantico 5 Sentidos, Menorca
Basic lodging on the edge of the Old Town with comfortable rooms and a simple breakfast buffet
Overview
Kimkim's Take
Pros
- The hotel follows a sensory theme, hoping to give guests the complete Menorcan experience through aspects like fragrant orange trees, city views, and heated flooring.
- Guests can enjoy a light breakfast buffet in a charming little dining space.
- Though a standard hotel without many amenities or perks, the property has exceptionally kind staff and provides a comfortable stay.
- Because the hotel isn't in the very center of the historic core, there's street parking close to the building.
Cons
- The hotel doesn't quite live up to its sensory theme (all rooms feel the same) but still provides a restful stay.
- Though still just a 10-minute walk from the main city sites, the hotel is farther from the Old Town than other options and along a busy roundabout intersection.
- The rooms are on the small side and rather minimalist.
- The upper floors can only be accessed by stairs.
Authenticity
Hoping to give guests the whole Menorcan experience, the hotel channels the five senses into its rooms and common areas. Upon leaving the property, the owners hope you will walk away with an understanding of how Menorca feels, sounds, looks, smells, and tastes. They attempt this with room decor and design, plus daily breakfast and a few experiences.Location
The hotel is outside the main city center and on a busy roundabout, so you'll be close to the highways that take you across Menorca. The beach at Cala en Blanes is five minutes by car, and the scenic rock formations at Pont d'en Gil are just seven minutes. You'll need only 14 minutes to get to Naveta d'Es Tudons, one of the numerous archeological sites dotting the island. Still, the city's cathedral, Port, and City Hall are all within 10 minutes of walking.Rooms & Bathrooms
Each room offers a piece of one of the five senses. For example, the olfactory room (sense of smell) has a window opening up to a fragrant orange tree, and the view room (sense of sight) offers glimpses of the city from its bathroom window. Though the theme is cute and thoughtful, the rooms don't feel much different from one another and offer fairly simple furnishings, designs, and comfort. As a unique perk, they all provide heated flooring, which is nice when traveling during the cooler months.Amenities
The hotel is quite minimalist regarding its amenities, as the property has no gym or spa. However, the good news for guests traveling by car is that there is parking in front of the hotel for guests with accessibility needs and street parking nearby for others. Although there are some accessible rooms equipped with grab bars on the ground floor, other rooms are unsuitable for those with mobility needs, as rooms on the upper floors are only accessible by stairs.Family-Friendliness
Only children over 12 are allowed to stay in the hotel, and all rooms are limited to two guests, so this may not be the best hotel if you are traveling as a large family or with small children. Hotel Romantico 5 Sentidos is not really a popular choice with families.Other Highlights
The hotel's highlights are the staff’s attention to detail and warm, welcoming service.Like what you see?
