Las Perlitas, Sámara
Simple, peaceful boutique hotel offering a pool, gardens, apartment options, and proximity to Playa Sámara.
Overview
Las Perlitas Boutique Hotel, a simple family-owned property nestled in the bustling city of Sámara, is surrounded by gardens yet just a mile (1.5 km) away from the shimmering sands of Playa Sámara. You'll also find several shops, cafés, and restaurants nearby for your convenience. Past kimkim travelers have highlighted the hotel's friendly and accommodating staff.
Pros
- Small and intimate experience that's accentuated by friendly staff.
- Has a small pool where you can relax if you need a break from the noise of the beach.
- Away from the center of Sámara, making the hotel quite peaceful and quiet.
Cons
- Since the hotel is designed as a bed-and-breakfast, there are limited amenities as there's no spa, fitness center, or other unique features.
- The hotel is a mile away from the beach, so it's not ideal for travelers who want immediate access to the ocean.
- You'll have to walk about a half mile to access Sámara's restaurants and shopping.
Authenticity
The trendy hotel is a small, one-building property owned and run by a mother-son team. Though not as resplendent as a luxury resort, Las Perlitas has a distinctly personal and cozy touch to it. The owner's and staff's warm personalities will have you feeling right at home during your stay.
Location
Sámara is on Costa Rica's western coastline in Guanacaste Province. The hotel is set back inland at the edges of the town, so it's a bit of a walk to get to the main areas. The center of town, with most of the dining and shopping, is about a half mile and 10 minutes away on foot. It's about twice as far to Playa Sámara, which is one mile away, a 20-minute walk. Popular attractions in the greater area include the Camaronal National Wildlife Refuge, 11 miles (17 km) from the hotel.
Rooms & Bathrooms
The rooms at Las Perlitas Boutique Hotel are basic yet bright and airy, with plenty of natural light. Each room comes with air-conditioning, a desk, and a terrace offering views of the pool or garden. All rooms feature private bathrooms equipped with a bath or shower and a hairdryer. The Double Room offers garden and pool views, whereas the studio and apartment options feature a kitchen and dining area, and the two-bedroom apartment is perfect for a group of four adults.
Wildlife
The area around the hotel is a mix of urban development and cleared fields, so you won't see too much wildlife on-site, as there's a large buffer between the property and the jungle. However, you're still likely to hear tropical bird songs in the mornings and see some of the native birds flying overhead while relaxing at the pool.
Amenities
Functioning mostly as a bed-and-breakfast, the hotel has limited amenities. You won't find a spa or fitness center here, but the hotel does have a small pool in the corner courtyard, which is quite peaceful due to the small nature of the hotel. You'll also have all the basics, like free WiFi and parking, and the hotel is accessible to travelers with limited mobility.
Family-Friendliness
The hotel isn't suitable for most families, as children must be at least 16 years old. For those traveling with older teenagers, the hotel has larger apartments available. These are great for families who want to be self-sufficient, as the apartments have multiple bedrooms, kitchens, and laundry.
Other Highlights
Start your day with a complimentary breakfast before heading out to explore the city or relax by the outdoor pool. The hotel also provides bikes for you to explore the local area. Although Las Perlitas doesn't have an on-site restaurant or bar, you'll find plenty of food and drink options in downtown Sámara.
