Beatriz De Pablo Rocha

The combination of the two places where I grew up (Madrid and a small village in Badajoz, Extremadura) has made me a passionate traveler almost from birth. Unknown destinations visited by travelers who ran away from clichés and unusual places have always caught my attention, and from my point of view, these are the places that best allow you to get to know a culture and its traditions.

I firmly believe that each of the trips we make changes our life (even just a little), and that is why I rely on experiences when I have to choose a new destination and the activities to enjoy there. I had the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in a favela in Cape Town and listening to the real stories of the people living there absolutely changed my mind. Since I started traveling (through most of Europe and several destinations in Africa and Central Asia), I have felt the need to share these amazing and very diverse experiences with all the people who allow me to do it and create in them a memory for a lifetime.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Custom-made itineraries and unique trips based in local experiences and the culture of Spain, Portugal Italy and Morocco."

How did you get involved in travel?

"As I had to travel a lot between Madrid and Badajoz as a child, I started to get curious about all the places I passed by. That curiosity grew and over the time I began to take trips that allowed me to know different destinations and cultures. I decided to guide my career in the world of tourism, and for 5 years I have turned my passion into my job, organizing trips that create memories in the lives of others."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"It’s really difficult for me to choose just one experience, but as we are talking about unique experiences probably I have to talk about the first time I lived a Flamenco show at a private and really small Sacromonte Cave, in Granada. Flamenco has always been special for me and could sound like “a cliché” in our country, but to watch a live show in such a magical and familiar place was absolutely memorable. "

This was our first trip to Portugal, so we wanted to book with a local. Overall, we were very happy with our specialist Bea who was super friendly and helpful. She booked us an amazing trip with some fantastic highlights, with only a few disappointments. First to give a shout-out to the driver she arranged for us to pick us up from the airport in Lisbon and take us to and from Lagos. His name was Nuno and he was the best! We really enjoyed talking with him and though he wasn’t a tour guide per we, he explained so many neat things! He showed us the cork trees, for example, even stopping so we could see them up close! We felt like VIPs riding in his nice van and he was always dressed to the T. The best surprise was when we got back to Lisbon, he arranged for us to skip the line for pastries at Pasteis de Belem because he stopped the van, ran in and grabbed ours hot and fresh! Such a treat! Our few days in Lagos was nice, but we both agreed we wouldn’t return. The four wheel drive tour was in an old beat up Toyota driven by a fellow who was mainly interested in stopping along the way for smoke breaks. We did enjoy our city guides of Lisbon, both tour guides we had were great! We learned so much. Another amazing day was the trip to Sinatra to tour the palaces. Our guide was another wonderful guide Nuno who also was the photographer who took all of the postcards sold in the palace! He gave us a set of them too! He took us on a secret hike to get a magnificent view of the palace! Such a cool experience! Finally, we flew to Sau Miguel in the Azores for a magnificent week. It truly is one of the most beautiful islands I have ever seen! We enjoyed hiking the Sete Cidades, driving to Furnas to visit the natural Hot Springs, visiting the Gorreana Tea factory, and mostly just grabbing some bread and cheese and hitting the road for the next most scenic picnic spot! Our hotel, Hotel Marina Atlantico, was a big disappointment. It was quite dated, and the staff was very rude to us on several occasions. Our key didn’t work on more than one occasion, and we would have to go back downstairs to get a new one. We were told upon check in that there was no parking available except in the second garage over, so we had to walk out of the parking garage to the street to get back to the hotel. This was unacceptable arrangement and we found out later there were plenty of parking spots! Regardless, we enjoyed the island but would not stay there ever again. Thanks to Bea for this truly memorable trip!

Change the description of this please! As a catamaran lover, we were extremely disappointed to find that our “sailing” trip was in truth, riding on a packed rubber Zodiak! Passengers were packed neck to neck straddling the center like a pony! Again, not at all what we were expecting. The cave tour itself was neat, but the rough bouncy ride there was anything but.

Unfortunately this was a disappointing experience. The guide was late picking us up, and he arrived in a very old Toyota 4 x 4 that was already full of people. Two ladies were seated in the back cargo area! The driver and several other passengers were smokers who made a point to stop along the way for smoke breaks, I kid you not. All the while we are driving toward the lookout point for the sunset, it is getting later and closer to sunset. The driver ended up rushing to arrive in time before sunset! The views were beautiful though!

This is our second trip using KimKim and highly recommend using them. From the start of our planning to occasional check ins while we were on the trip, our overall experience with our Madrid-based travel consultant, Bea De Pablo, has been excellent. She carefully explored our desired destinations, experiences, travel preferences, and activities and crafted the ideal itinerary for our planned 17-day, bucket-list adventure in Italy to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. She was extremely flexible in accommodating requested changes and altering the itinerary to ensure it better aligned with our needs. Both Bea and other travel consultants whom we contacted via phone and chat were quick to respond to any urgent questions we had while on the trip.

Memorable guided experiences included the following:
• Two days of hiking through the Alpe di Suisi and Seceda Spires in the Dolomites. Our guide, Emanuela, ensured we were able to take in the most stunning vistas as she shared historical and cultural information about this unique region. Felt like taking a hike with a good friend through breathtaking scenery.
• Tour of the Uffizi Gallery followed by a private discovery walk of Florence at Night. Our guide, Paola Angelini (LivTours) skillfully negotiated the crowds with our group of four to ensure we were able to see the Renaissance masterpieces of Botticelli, DaVinci, Raphael and Titan, offering expert insights into each. This was followed by a private walk from the Piazza della Signoria to the Ponte Vecchio. Very impressed with her knowledge.
• Artisan tour of the mosaic laboratory and paper workshop. Our guide from LivTours enabled us to see artisans working behind the scenes. Remarkable to see the processes still employed since the days of Medici.
• Cooking class at the Podere Il Casale in Pienza. Our delightful host showed us the farm and process for making cheese, and then put us to work chopping/preparing and then enjoying the most amazing Italian feast with six new friends. Unique, fun way to wrap up our Tuscan experience.
• Day with Donatella and Marco Vangi of Talixo Tuscany touring the Tuscan countryside with a stop in Civita di Bagnoregio. We were fortunate to have Marco not only drive us from Florence to Montepulciano with stops in Siena and San Gimignano but also from Montepulciano to Rome. Marco provided us very insightful commentary as we took in the sights of historical walled cities and vineyards. Donatella accompanied us to the fragile hilltop settlement and treated us to a lovely lunch.
• Guided tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. Rita’s deep knowledge, combined with her ability to help our small group navigate the crowds was well appreciated.
• Private guided tour of Pompeii. Luigi’s expertise and knowledge as an archaeologist brought to life what was the thriving city of Pompeii and its ancient port, the massive destruction caused by Vesuvius and the history of excavations.

What elevated our travel experience:
• Use of drivers vs. handling our own transportation. Would highly recommend leaving the transportation up to the skilled drivers who were carefully selected by Bea to transport us throughout the Dolomites, to Venice, from Florence through Tuscany to Rome. They were very skilled in navigating the challenging Italian roads, while entertaining us with historical insights and overviews of each area, stories of the regional wines and much more as we passed through the countryside. Kudos to Andrea Alessandrini, Cristiano, and Marco Vangi for allowing us to really relax and take in the sights. Additionally, the drivers were always very punctual and never let us wait.
• Use of LivTours – Organization employs top notch guides who possess great knowledge and brought to life for us the rich history, architecture, life and artistry. They really helped to create a deeper cultural connection for us.

Montepulciano

Having been dropped off at the gated entrance to the village of Montepulciano by our driver, our quest to reach the hotel walking up cobbled streets with luggage in tow made it a challenging location. That said the views from our room at sunrise of the Valdichiana and from the patio of the adjacent restaurant/wine bar of the Val d'Orcia at sunset were quite beautiful.

Authenticity & Character
Situated in a palazzo that dates from the 14th century adjacent to the Piazza San Francesco.
Location
If being driven, have the driver report plate # to the hotel to be allowed into the city. With a private car, one can drive directly to the hotel and park. Good location though otherwise from which to tour Montepulciano. Wood recommend dining at the adjacent wine bar offers great wine and authentic Tuscan food.
Staff
The hotel staff were operating the adjacent wine bar, so the check in process/communication was a challenge. There were however very attentive at breakfast.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Clean, but furnishings could be updated.

Location is great, with nice public space, lovely roof-top breakfast area and professional staff. The Classic room, though more economical, was really quite small.

Authenticity & Character
Location
Great location within walking distance to the Pantheon, Colosseum and Roman Forum and excellent restaurants in Travastere and the Jewish Quarter
Staff
When we checked in our initial room had an issue with the air conditioner making a high pitch sound. Unfortunately they were sold out can could not change our room. Unable to fix it, the desk clerk was very good at notifying the manager and making arrangements to change our room the next day. Staff was very professional and attentive to our needs.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Classic rooms are very small, particularly for a 5-night stay. Would suggest requesting a Superior room to get adequate closet/storage space.

Cristiano was terrific! He provided great details on the history, culture, preparation for the 2026 Olympic games and insights into the industry of each community we passed as he carefully navigated the winding roads of the Dolomites as we made our way from Castelrotto to Cortina and ultimately to Venice. Cristiana made sure to stop and allow us to take photos at some of the most scenic locations and waited patiently as we strolled around Cortina and had lunch. We were delayed arriving at the meeting place given the rain, significant distance of our hotel from San Marco Square, and faulty GPS directions. Overall the trip was great. Booking through Kimkim, with Bea's advice and suggestions, made it possible for us to experience an amazing trip to Naples. The private transfers worked well. Having seen the Naples traffic, there is no way we could have driven ourselves on this holiday. Our pick up at Naples airport worked well, taking us up to Cellole for the wedding. Our return trip to Naples via the Reggia de Caserta was great. We enjoyed exploring both the palace and its gardens.
The Hotel Caruso Place was lovely, and our suite was great. We had a small balcony, allowing us to watch the lively Via Toledo below. The location was really good, close to lots of shops, pizzerias and the Toledo metro. Our only challenge was getting to and from the hotel with all of our luggage (we had more than usual due to the wedding). It's a 2 minute walk from the taxi drop off to the hotel, and once you arrive you have to carry your bags up some steep stairs to the 1st floor reception. There's a side entrance with only a couple of steps that worked well for us during our stay, but you have to be checked in to use it. The staff were friendly and helpful. It's a small hotel, with a small team. They were happy to bring us coffee, a bottle of wine etc on request and spoke English.
Our food tour was a great introduction to Naples and our guide was very good. I think he was Giovianni. We were with 2 other British couples and had a great 3 hours together, experiencing fantastic food.
Our trip to Pompeii was really good. Our guide was Carmine. Having a guide for just the 2 of us worked really well. I don't hear well, so I often miss out during larger group tours. With Carmine's knowledge we were able to cut through Pompeii, avoiding the other tour groups, and could chat to him, asking questions as we went. His love of Pompeii and knowledge were clear and made the visit really good.
We then went on to Mt Vesuvius, with Umberto as a guide. Again, the private guide worked well for us. Umberto explained the different types of volcanos and then took us up to the crater at the top. Our visit took longer than expected as Umberto knew everyone who works on Vesuvius, in all of the stalls and refreshment places, and he stopped to talk to them. He took time to show us different rocks and minerals, which was fine but we were concerned for our driver, as we knew we were due back and running late. Umberto also talked a lot (not always about the volcano) and in truth we found the tour a little tiring. He was a nice guide, but lacked focus at times.
We enjoyed the visit to the olive, lemon and mozzarella farm close to Sorrento. The experience was very nice, although it was further away from Naples than we'd expected and we spent a lot of time in the car for a relatively short visit. Elsa and Benedetto were great hosts, and the food was lovely. As were the views back to Naples.
Positives: private tours were very good. The food and people, including our drivers and tour guides were friendly and welcoming. When we requested an earlier airport pick up for departure, this was easy to do and our My Trip was updated straight away.
Negatives: the description of the activities did not always deliver what we expected: the tours of Pompeii and Vesuvius were described as 'with an archeaologist and vulcanologist' but in reality they were tour guides, knowledgeable in the site we were visiting, but not actually archeaologists or vulcanologists. At the Sorrento farm we thought we would make limoncello, but the description of the tour changed in My Trip after the event to remove this and just referred to the live mozzarella-making demonstration (which we saw). Also initially we thought we had a lunch between Pompeii and Vesuvius, but that disappeared at some point.
So overall a really good experience, and we're glad we booked via Kimkim. We couldn't have done all of these experiences without you pulling together the trip. We really appreciated the prosecco and fruit on arrival at the Caruso Place hotel too! Thanks.

This was our first time using a travel agency in many many years - we usually make our own plans but KimKim was recommended and we decided to travel on short notice during peak season, so wanted some help - we couldn't be more pleased and will recommend KimKim to others. Our local specialist Beatriz was outstanding - she really listened to our preferences and designed a trip that was perfect for us in terms of the things we like to do and see. She found really excellent local guides and planned enough for us to do, without over-scheduling us. There were a few minor glitches (to be expected on such a long and complex travel), but she built in enough time that none of them became critical and all were easily handled. When a couple of drivers didn't show up, she processed refunds for us without even being asked. She or colleagues were very easy to communicate with. This was a memorable trip and we would recommend KimKim and specifically Beatriz very highly!!

Jorge was a great guide. He really knew the history, was a great communicator and created a very unique experience for us traveling outside of the city center, which is what we wanted to do. He was friendly and fun and very open. He was a good listener and tailored things to what we enjoyed. The pace was great and he was a good driver. Our family was so lucky to have been assigned to Bea for our trip to Spain. She was fantastic. From the beginning, she listened to what we valued and had a lot of helpful input. She suggested many more ideas to consider than what we could fit it, so that we could choose what sounded best.

The greatest thing about Bea was her quick response time. We had the basics of the trip finished quite early, but she had to wait on us for new passports to arrive, and then we went through some revisions as our flights changed. (She was beyond reasonable and quick when our entire trip added a day.) During the trip, we had more questions and required a bit of hand-holding with small details and she was unflappable during this time. Cheerful, quick, and full of good advice. KimKim uses a really efficient app during the trip so that communication is in real time.

It was hard to choose where to start our trip. I picked the route which was loosely based on the suggested trip plans on KimKim's website. We ended up starting in Madrid, and heading south with stays in Sevilla, Granada, and Malaga. We had short visits in Segovia, Ronda, Nerja, Frigiliana, and an activity in Marbella.

Our family includes 3 teen boys so our choices aligned with their interests. Bea hooked us up with a hot air balloon ride which was magical. We also enjoyed a segway tour in Madrid, a few walking tours including the Alhambra, an olive oil estate visit outside of Sevilla, a visit inside the caves of Nerja, a flamenco show in a cave above Granada, and a canyoning excursion near Marbella. On our own we booked a mountain biking day for the boys for our added last day. The fellas most enjoyed the adrenaline activities of canyoning (think swimming through a cave, sliding down natural slides on your behind, and doing 3-9m cliff jumps.) They also loved the hot air balloon ride. I am thankful that the early start time of that aligned with our jet lag near the beginning of the trip. We encountered some really special surprises too: our segway guide in Madrid, David, took us to a small, unremarkable door behind a convent. Inside was a cookie "business" being run by the nuns of the church. We never saw a human. We went in and spoke through a speaker about what we wanted to purchase, and a packed box of cookies appeared in this little door in the wall. During a walk in the very hilly whitewashed town of Friginiana, we came across a local cat rescue with a viewing window of the "gatos." This was our family's jam, and we never would have expected to find it set amongst the small, hilly lanes of the village. The boys were also happy to find the filming location of Naboo from Star Wars in Sevilla. Many teen photos were taken there, second only to cat photos.

The hotels that she recommended fit well with our expectations of location, family sleeping arrangements, and yes, air conditioning :) Our favorite hotels were the two times that we stayed in H10 properties in Sevilla and Malaga. Our Granada hotel was very charming. We enjoyed several dining experiences despite the kids not feeling tapas at every turn. We ended up at a few steak houses and mercados (markets) for even more choices. Our favorite spot for chocolate y churros was Cafe Futbol in Granada. Our favorite restaurant was a pizza place, also in Granada, called La Piccola Carmela. They had a fancier sister restaurant for authentic Spanish tapas. Our favorite place to eat in Malaga was Pampa Grill. Every breakfast was lovely. Zero issues.

I should add a last shout out to the incredible drivers that Bea chose for our longer drives. Our favorite driver was Jesus Ferreira, who we had twice. We loved him, and he really made the time spent so special. He took us to a spot that wasn't planned because he had a hunch, and he was right! We also liked Angel in Malaga and Alberto Zabala in Sevilla.

Our family had taken one trip to Europe before, which I planned. Despite it going well, when I began my research for this trip, I was dreading the legwork. The hours of planning, researching, and figuring timing of trains and when to reserve what, complete with FOMO about things that I didn't know existed. While reading family trip blogs I came across KimKim. I was intrigued and filled out an interest form. We were assigned to Beatriz, and it was like a local angel was inside of my head. She took away almost every worry and I cannot express my relief. We didn't look back. I highly recommend KimKim and Bea. We will use them again.

This hotel was perfect for us. The H10 in Sevilla had probably the best staff that we encountered. The gentleman (Fran?) that checked us in had very good advice and ideas. Everything was modern and clean, beds were good, and we appreciated their decorating style. Irreverent art. Good location.

This was our favorite hotel on the trip. It was in a good location and was very stylish and airy. At first, we arrived and thought that we were located too far away from the beach. But quickly we realized that all of the action that we wanted was in the area near us. Everything was nearby. The mercado was a half block away. The hotel rooftop was perfect - big enough for options but not a crazy DJ party like the RIU in Madrid. Loved the rooftop pool, small restaurant, and lounge area. Our family was given two rooms. One had a balcony deck so big that it wrapped around the corner and had a 2nd section with sun loungers. Room 801, btw. The other room was a tad larger but had two small balconies. Also great. Room 809. The breakfast was good. Decor was nice. The lobby has water and small snacks/treats out at all times.

Authenticity & Character
This hotel isn't quaint - it is new. However, that is a big part of Malaga. Lovely decorative tiles surround all of the decks.

Close to everything that we wanted. About 100 restaurants within 4-5 blocks.

We really liked this. We were all new to segways, but the learning curve isn't bad at all. The tour guide was a younger guy. He had a lot of information. For our teens, I'd maybe give him a "4" because he told about more history than they needed. He did take us to a few "hidden gems" that we wouldn't have found otherwise. I gave the activity vendor a 4 because two of our five segways had some slowing issues when accelerating, which suggests a not-super-thorough maintenance system. They were not dangerous at any time, but they weren't as easy to control as the other 3.

This was breathtaking. So glad that we had the opportunity to do it. I don't know why, but I had expected a more private experience. Instead the balloon held around 16 people. That was fine. The pilot had flown balloons for 23 years and was a pro. I was slightly worried when he gave a safety speech in spanish. I only understood an arm gesture and the word "important," which was concerning. Luckily some other riders clued us in that he was talking about landing positions, and they explained what we should do. We floated over Segovia and there was no bad place in the balloon. He steered it so that everyone was able to see each angle. We were in the air for over an hour. Our landing was perfect - no big bumps or tipping over. After the staff cleaned up the gear there was a small breakfast and a toast.

We were lucky to get Jesus Ferreira Franco as our driver, two different times. I think his business is called Luxury Granada? What a kind, knowledgeable man. He became a friend by the end of our trip. Courteous, polite, caring, prepared, with excellent stories. This was, without a doubt, the best driver that we could have had. He made our trip better. Our sons all said that they missed him after we needed to have a different driver later on.

I gave this 4 stars because our kids were totally not into it. I liked it a lot, and I think that culture and history can be absorbed by things that aren't museums and famous monuments. The estate was really old and had the original equipment from the 1600's. We learned a lot about different olive varieties and mediterranean-area production. We saw the apparatus and had an oil tasting. There was a driver to the estate and back, so everything was so simple. It was located about 20 minutes from downtown Seville.

I imagine that there are tons of tour guides for the Alhambra. It is really important to see. We had no trouble finding our guide at the meeting place. He was knowledgeable and told us a lot about the gardens (which we did first) and the Alhambra. You really do get more than seeing it alone. Although, to be fair, we did not listen to any audio tours so cannot compare.

Quality of Experience
I liked hearing the more "secret" things, like about how oleander was used in the garden because the staff didn't like a certain female nobleperson. Oleander is beautiful but poisonous, which was how the staff described this woman.

Our guide took us through a wood product shop at the end. This was the only time on our trip that we felt like American tourists, like he was going to get a kickback from any sales of wood items. Kind of soured us a bit. I'm pretty sure that this was rare because there were not many people in the shop.

This was the most authentic way for us to see the dancers. It felt a bit touristy, but the location was definitely built into the side of the mountain and the dancers were amazing. They worked! You really need to see flamenco at some point in Spain. We ran into a family in our hotel that had arranged a lesson somewhere, and they had to perform for an audience after their lesson. This was somewhere else. We weren't that committed. Happy to just watch. It was just the right amount of time.

Once again, this was awesome. We were taught to row the boats, which was like a gondola, but made for two people to row. The operators were all women school teachers also doing this and they could row the boat without you if needed. Everyone got a chance to row both through the back canals in Venice and out in the open water. Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

Hi Bill! Thank you so much for your super detailed feedback and the kind words to our team! It could be tricky sometimes to put all 15 people on the same page while traveling, but you made it SO easy. I'm glad you had a great time and that the weather in the end allowed you to enjoy the hot air balloon! Definitely a unique experience :) It would be definitely a pleasure to accompany you on a third adventure with us. Sending you my best regards, Bea.
