No problem at Lake Myvatn with bugs, probably because it was a bit cool. Good marsh bird watching there and at Djupivogur. Loved Seydisfjordur and the newly renovated guesthouse, Vio Lonio. Appreciated being pointed to the various little museum: Sheep Farming Museum in Holmavik, Herring Museum in Siglufjordur, Heritage Museum in Isafjordur and others. The Kia he rented for us handled the mildly terrifying, narrow dirt roads up and down the fjords beautifully. Other memorable hotels were the Vogafjos Farm House at Lake Myvatn, Guesthouse Skalafell outside Skaftafell Park., and Helgugata Guesthouse in Borgarnes. Less memorable were the Fosshotel in Patreksfjordur (costly and less unique) and the Arnastapi Cottages (beautiful location, but be sure to ask for a guesthouse or hotel room with an unobstructed view of the ocean. Also, no good place for dinner). The Sea Monster Museum was pretty lame, but some might like it. Waterfalls were all spectacular and we even saw some crazy kayakers go over one as part of a film shoot.) I'd also recommend the Insight Guide, Explore Iceland as an adjunct to Chris' suggestions. Thanks for everything!

Trish & Fin, welcome back! So glad you had such a memorable trip to Iceland, and I'm thankful you managed to avoid the black flies at Myvatn. I'm jealous you witnessed kayakers going over a waterfall--that must have been such a site. Sorry we didn't include the opportunity for you to do the same--maybe on your next kimkim trip? ;-)

Our 7-day excursion to Iceland went very smoothly, and we were very pleased that all the logistics involved with the reservations and itinerary planning worked out well. Except for the hike to the airplane ruin, I think we did all the recommended activities!

Before engaging with KimKim, I had considered just piecing together an itinerary and reservations by myself. In the end, I'm glad we paid the premium to have specialists organize everything. It was extremely helpful to have someone with local knowledge of the terrain and travel conditions to sketch out our daily schedule.

Driving at the end of March brought us a little more wintry conditions than I had expected. We drove through a couple of snowstorms on the Ring Road, and it was scary for some moments with zero visibility, but fortunately we had no problems. (The last time I visited Iceland was in 1997, and I skidded off the road into the snow on the way back from the Thingvellir Park. A nice family stopped and helped jack up my rental car to clear out the snow from around the tires, so all turned out well in the end.) Driving in Iceland is no joke! There were days when I was mentally planning to not be able to drive because of the weather. (But we did drive daily). It was nice that our itinerary wasn't jam packed, and we had some time flexibility.

We enjoyed every part of the trip, but our absolute favorite parts were:

-The snorkeling in the Silfra fissure: Our guide, Taz, from Arctic Adventures was excellent! She had a very sunny disposition, was very careful about getting us suited up properly and kept a good eye on us while we were in the water. I actually felt very light headed at the very end of the snorkeling route, and she had to tow me to the stairs and help me get out of the water. I felt like I was going to faint, but she was extremely attentive and helped me walk back to the parking lot without incident. I will write to Arctic Adventures directly to thank her again - Taz was truly an outstanding professional.

-The ice cave tour outside of Vík: Our guide, AJ, was great. We weren't sure if the tale he told us about the Katla eruption in 1311 was a myth or not, but he made the details very entertaining. The small cave we visited was beautiful, and the pristine, desolate surroundings were stunning. We were very glad to have been the first tour of the day, so we were able to go out and see the cave by ourselves with no other visitors around, because we were the only ones on the tour. (The other clients didn't show up.)

-The hike to Svartifoss: Wow- what a beautiful waterfall and a pretty little route to get there.

-The hike between Arnarstapi and Hellnar was a majestic path that gave us a tiny bit of solitude for a while.

Since I visited in 1997, tourism in Iceland has obviously grown exponentially. I remember going to visit Gullfoss and not seeing anyone else around for miles. This time around was obviously quite different with hordes of tourists stepping off buses.

The next time we visit Iceland, we would like to tour the north and the interior and do a lot more walking or hiking. This trip was a great introduction to the country for my husband and daughter and inspired them to also want to return someday.

Thanks for your help in making this a great experience!

We had a few episodes of bad weather during the trip including one road closure due to high winds however Sotiria communicated with me and made sure we were able to get to our hotel. It was nice to know we had a local agent we could call when weather conditions changed. I highly recommend using the kimkim service for trip planning.

They utilized Midgard Adventures and Midgard Base Camp. Midgard added some completely unique dimensions such a hornet meal in a cave! They also quickly adapted when our snowmobiling trip was cancelled due to weather, the revised day was even better than we had planned. Iceland with Kimkim/Midgard is an absolute must !

Goody and Ziggy showed our group parts of Iceland that few tourists get to experience. We climbed to the bottom of a large crevasse on Mýrdalshreppur Glacier and had the whole location to ourselves. Ziggy gave us a personal tour of Midgard Base Camp and Goody introduced us to the owner of Hotel Ranga whose entertaining stories were “mostly true”. These personal touches made for an amazing trip.

He even entertained us with stories of Icelandic folk-law. He really knew his stuff. Our group was just 13 people—the perfect size. We stopped between sights for amazing photo opps—of course its hard to take a bad picture in Iceland. People say Iceland is expensive—but between Rhenar taking us to get affordable sandwiches for lunch and finding out of the way restaurants in the evening —I'd say it's well worth the trip.

The trip Zeynep put together for us was AMAZING. Everything was organized for us in a folder with our vouchers and itinerary ready to go. IcelandAir Hotel Marina (king attic room) was a great place to stay. Our Game of Thrones tour with Gray Line was fantastic. The 2 Day South Coast Tour (with waterfalls and ice caves!) and Snæfellsnes tour (with beautiful lava fields, glaciers, and volcanoes) were outstanding—both of which were recommended to us. She also recommended some awesome book stores and local spots for our day in Reykjavik and none of them disappointed.

We only had 2 hours at the blue lagoon, and I would recommend at least 3 hours or so if you get premium admission like we did. The restaurant takes a while so we only got less than 30 minutes in the lagoon and had to rush to shower and dress before our driver came to take us to the airport. Thanks for encouraging us to go Zeynep, even though we weren’t sure...it was definitely worth it!!

Zeynep and kimkim did a great job putting our honeymoon together...thank you!!

Preeti, Halldor and Herbert all were just great with everything from very beginning stage of the trip planning.
Even tour guide Jenn during glacier walk was very carring and knowledgeable.
Marcin, during ice cave tour just perfect. Due to very windy condition 70MPH+ wind, when every tour company cancel the trips, was able to take us for the tour on the glacier.
Both Jenn and Marcin, I would definitely recommend to request of them for anyone who is planning the trip. Both are great helping hands for having 5 female ranging in age from 17 to 47.
Having only 4 hours of daylight, Trip was planned very well. Driving on the south coast starting from Eglissdir and ending it in Reykjavik by staying in nearest hotels of the activities we requested to do such as Glacier hike, ice cave tour and snowmobiling.
Visiting Blue Lagoon on the day of our departure was just perfect before the six hours of flight home.
I strongly recommend to use Kim Kim team of Preeti,Halldor and Herbert for trip of beautiful Iceland. We will definitely use them for our future trip to Iceland in Summer months to experience midnight Sun.
Though we were unfortunate for not being able to see the Northern Lights as it was the warmest December in 17yrs informed by receptionist at hotel Ranga one the hotel we stayed. We will have to visit Iceland winter month also.
After visiting so many different countries, i can say Iceland is one country that we will be taking trip to in different seasons over and over again, such a BEAUTIFUL , PEACEFUL COUNTRY full of fresh air.
Thank you Preeti, I will contact you again for my future trips to Iceland.

We were very lucky to have Laufey as our travel specialist, she was extremely helpful and patient with my specific requests and ended up creating a travel itinerary that was perfect to our needs! They even covered some costs for us due to some small misunderstandings. We're very thankful for that plus the great trip that we had!

From landing to departure everything was taken care of. We were picked up at the airport by a private driver, taken straight to our hotel and Laufey even prepared a very detailed guide for our self-directed day tour around Reykjavik.

On the second day, we were picked up by Jón, our Icelandic Mountain Tours guide. The bus only had a total of 6 people (including Jón) but yet they still proceeded with the tour. The weather was insane that day, with crazy winds. Lots of day tours were cancelled. Lucky for us, Jón flipped our tour backwards and did tons of research to make sure our transportation to the Golden Circle was safe. The winds were very very strong, and Jón focused on the drive to make our safety the utmost priority. Our entire group was crazy jetlagged so we had a difficult time staying awake while he was explaining history/geology/etc., and we feel so remorseful for that!

The next two days we drove even further, went to the Glacier Bay, Diamond Beach, and also did a glacier walk and ice caving. I highly recommend the glacier walk on Skaftafellstofa! We also admired the Black Sand Beach, waterfalls, and gorgeous views, before ending our private tour with Jón and heading back to the capital.

We were also scheduled for snorkeling at the Silfra as well as the Blue Lagoon.
I have so many great things to say about this trip and the way Laufey planned it out for us! From start to finish everything was done perfectly and left us with little to worry about.

Thank you so much!
