Alphonso was responsive, well informed and easy to work with. While in Spain, we had confidence that he or someone in the shop would respond in a timely way to our many questions. It took a lot of pressure off our backs. We had a great trip, which he helped us plan, including visiting several different regions. We relied a great deal on his judgment. Sasha in Girona, Juan in San Sebastian, and Susanna in Bilbao were all terrific -- extremely knowledgeable and fun. We had never used a travel agent before, but will certainly come back to KimKim.

I want to Thank Bea for creating a wonderful trip for us. She was such a pleasure to work with. The App they asked us to download turned out to be a very helpful tool used by most of us. Our pickups and connections worked smoothly and everything went without a hitch. I want to thank her for her hard work and providing us a great trip with wonderful lodgings. We loved most of the guides and were happy with all of the arrangements, pickups and things we saw in did. While we enjoyed all of the guides except one, some of them stood out and I would like to point those out and why we thought they were great.
17- first tour was the tapas tour -- that was so lovely -- there was food for every taste, and all of the locations were amazing. we couldn't believe the how much we learned and the presentation. Even the vegetarian, Pescatarian and children were happy. We were educated on Tapas and Cava and Vermouth -- which up to that point, we had never experienced. It flavored our entire vacation to try these things wherever we went and to have the confidence to eat off a Tapas menu throughout our visit. Our guide was Carla and we want to give her 5***** for guiding us through this experience and choosing such wonderful and varied things. It was a great start to our trip. We felt very pampered.
18 - Our trip to Monjuic was wonderful and we loved our guide Eduardo. It was our first castle of the trip and the entire experience was fun and we liked the 1/2 day . We also liked the adventure of taking the gondola to the top of Montjuic. We don't remember visiting the Olympic Barcelona, but perhaps we spent too much time in the castle. We were also a bit late arriving at our meeting point due to the train being unavailable for us.
19-- we were happy with Dani and the trip to see la Familia Sagrada and casa Mila. he was an excellent guide for us because he told us things then allowed us to explore at our own speed. He would always seem to be available when we had questions, but gave us the opportunity to see what we wanted. He was especially knowledgeable about the Family Sagrada. He had worked there at one time and the information he shared of the stages of development went back 30 years. I would also give him 5*.****
From a planning perspective, I felt that we didn't see quite enough Gaudi on this tour -- that was the only reason I came to Barcelona. I felt cheated that this was my only day to see his work. Park Guell was good and I loved it, but still missed out on so many other locations. That was probably my fault. I saw the itinerary and should have asked for more. All of our family loved Gaudi, even the children.
20 --Tossa de Mar -- we can't say enough about how much we liked this whole day and our guide Vicente. We all loved him and the tour. He gave us lots of info, was fun, good with the children and lots of personal time to explore. again 5*****.
21 -- Tarragona - we liked the town of Tarragona. Eduard was good, and very knowledgeable, but I think after Barcelona and Tossa de Mar, it paled in comparison .
21 -- Flamenco dancer -- we loved this, it was better than any of us expected. We could have easily watched for another half hour. Everyone, including the 4 year old was mesmerized. 5*****. the tapas afterwards were average bar food, I think we would have liked to go out on our own.

22 -- While we liked Cardona, we didn't care for our guide Ramon who didn't stick to the schedule that was proposed to us nor did he allow us any private time in the Castle part. He visited the Castle and the salt mine first, but we didn't get to go into the town, which sounded very interesting. We always enjoyed walking around old castle towns and seeing the Gothic and Romanesque buildings, however, we went to the castle and then the Salt mine first, and when asked about the town, he said it wasn't worth seeing Cardona because it was now closed. The KimKim schedule had us going to the town first, which is what every single one of the other guides had done. We now see the reason. He then tried to convince us to go to Montserrat, which was scheduled for a half day two days later. He said that is what he always did -- he confessed he didn't look at our itinerary. We cut the day short because we were really quite tired of this guide. He wasn't good with the children, in fact they chose to stay home the following day. We felt he was boring and repetitive and while he knew a lot, we had to hear everything a lot. We didn't enjoy our visits, but the salt mine was cool and we got to do it self guided. We couldn't give Ramon more than a 2** for his lack of following the schedule and annoying manner.
23 There were only 5 of us on this trip (as the family with children decided to stay home from the experience the day before), but those of us who wend enjoyed the visit to Girona. The guide Dulce, contacted me well in advance to find out more about us. That was the first guide to do that. We mentioned that in Girona we wanted to see the Game of Thrones sites, and she studied up on it so she knew where they were. I liked what she had to say. we also liked the Dali Museum and seeing the house. The only downside of this day was how crowded the Dali house was and the long drive. Afterwards she sent us some pictures she had taken of us. I would say Girona was one of the highlights of the trip.
24 Montserrat -- we had Jordi for this tour and we all liked him very much -- he was our kind of guide-- informative, and adventurous, he had a friend who stayed behind with my daughter who didn't feel she could walk back from the summit and was conscientious about where we were at all time. We love this type of guide. It was a great trip. 5***** for him and this was a great and spiritual part of the trip as we got a chance to light a candle for my Son-in-law's mother who died a week after their return to the USA. It was a special moment and we would like to thank the guide for giving us the private time to do this.
25 It was fun for everyone to take the fast train to Lleida. None of us had ever been on one. We liked very much having the seats that faced each other with the table in the middle -- thanks for arranging that. We played cards with the children . It all went very smoothly and the Parador Hotel Lleida was amazing. we all loved the rooms, the service the breakfast and the location. Thanks for arranging it for us. We also enjoyed the guide Jaume and the visit to La Seu Vella, the Gothic-Romanesque cathedral. we went back several times during our Llieda visit to look around some more and appreciate his introduction to the city.
26 -27 Now we come to our favorite guide of all. As much as we enjoyed the other guides, Miguel was over the top. 10********* I can't even explain how good he was except that he made sure we enjoyed every second. He knew a lot about the geology of the area, the history and spoke loudly enough that even my husband who was hard of hearing could hear. He was conscious of the interests of every person and we would rank him among some of the best guides we’ve ever used during our travel history. We felt blessed to have him for two days in Lleida (and again two days in Zaragosa with just Kim and I. He sent us an itinerary of way too many places to visit in one day, and we only made it to three each day, which was just perfect because it allowed us to explore and feel the history while he shared just the right bits with us. We often felt rushed along to match the guides timeline. This never happened with Miguel. If he had made an appointment with another guide to show us something special, he let us know in the morning what those times were so we could make choices. In addition, he would kindly tell a guide that they weren’t needed any more if he found that they weren’t as knowledgeable as he had hoped. One castle in particular that we visited was the highlight of the entire trip. Castell Montsonis. It is a castle that has always been lived in by Nobility and they have kept the castle in good condition. There was so much to see we really felt we were seeing something special and the guide Jaume was humorous and pulled all of in to the history of the Castle, which even had a dungeon with chains.
28 We thought Zaragoza was a beautiful city and enjoyed our visit, but would have liked to have more time there! Our Guide, Leyre, was excellent and we liked visiting both the old town, the Cathedral de Pilar and the palace de Aljaferia. The guide directed us to the TUBE where we found a great restaurant to eat, with enough time remaining to make it to the Palace in time for our tour with her. We enjoyed the day and the train ride was again very pleasurable.

We had an amazing trip to Spain and the team helped us ensure it was unforgettable. Highlights included the Taylor Swift concert in Madrid, a cooking class in Seville, and the Hammam baths in Grenada. Overall, we had an incredible time touring with the local guides, with special shoutouts to Juan and Gabriella for giving us authentic local experiences and recommendations.

Overall, the trip was great and we enjoyed all of the activities. Bea did a great job finding great experiences. All of the experiences were unique and interesting and a great mix of city sights and drives in the countryside.

The hotels were very good except the last one in Barcelona. While it was fine, it was not the excellent experience we had in the other hotels. For one thing, one of the two elevators was broken the entire time we were there.

Thanks so much

Marina put together a wonderful itinerary for our vacation in Spain. Here are the highlights:

We were met at the Barcelona airport by a friendly, courteous driver with an immaculate car! Smooth driving to our hotel!

Hotel Regina - great location for sightseeing. We were warmly welcomed. The room was a bit cramped, but very clean and well appointed.

Marcel (sp?) was an amazing guide for our tapas tour! He made sure that our diverse group of five couples was engaged and happy. He was very enthusiastic! We enjoyed the variety of tapas, beverages and eateries. Marcel shared tips for our stay, and made sure that we all had a safe route/plan to return to our hotels. ( Side note, it was a 30 minute walk from our hotel to the meeting site.)

Mari was an excellent guide! She introduced sites away from the typical tourist areas; and, helped us navigate the metro. Our visit to La Sagrada Familia was remarkable. Mari showed us the church from angles that made the church appear to be alive!

Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid was centrally located. The staff was professional and welcoming. We enjoyed the view of the square!

Segovia - excellent!

Hector was extremely knowledgeable! We need to return to Madrid to put his advice/suggestions to use!

H10 Corregidor Boutique Hotel was our favorite! The staff was warm and welcoming and offered plenty of suggestions for things to do until our room was ready (we arrived at 10am). The room was spacious, very clean and nicely decorated!

Flamingo was very interesting and very passionate!

Elena was WONDERFUL! She knew how to navigate the city to take advantage of the Corpis Christi procession! We loved visiting the Alcazar. Elena was so knowledgeable about the neighborhoods, museums and history, the tour flew by before we were ready to say goodbye. She is a gem!

Our driver to the airport was prompt, professional and friendly! His vehicle was immaculate!

Hi Norma,

Thank you for taking the time to share the feedback on your trip to Spain and Portugal.
I would like to address your comments below;

Regarding the response time; I have reviewed all the messages I had with you on the KimKim conversation. They were answered within 24 hours (business). We are based in Madrid so 6 hours ahead of EST, therefore if your message came in late in the day, it was answered the following business day. Our office is closed on the weekend so nobody would have seen your messages for example on the 18th and 19th of May, Saturday and Sunday, in which you wrote several times demanding a response. We responded to you on Monday the 20th.

In regards to the pick ups at the airports during busy times of the year such as May. The airports are very busy with many drivers waiting for travellers so it can take a little bit to find your particular driver. Also if the driver arrives late, it is not something we can control. On the day of your arrival on the 22nd of May, a message from a team member was sent to you in the chat in your itinerary App, welcoming you to Spain as well as responding to your messages from the KimKim conversation. Somebody from the team was chatting with you the entire time from when you landed until you found the driver.

The app chat is monitored 24 hours while you are travelling whereas the KimKim conversation is not. In addition, when I was back in the office on the 28th, as I had been out a few days due to a medical issue, I wrote you to say hello and let you know that I had seen the message about the issue with the luggage. We refunded you immediately for the storage of the luggage at the hotel in Córdoba. We were not aware that the hotel would charge you as this was the first time that this type of arrangement had been done with the guide. If we had known we would have included it and/or let you know. In any case, the money was refunded to you. In the chat on the 28th of May, you wrote: " It has. Even a good trip. Thank you. Norma". So not sure why it is being mentioned again this minor issue about the luggage.

In regards to the hotels in Porto and Lisbon. These hotels are the ones that were selected by Karenina and booked by her. However, during the planning phase for your trip, you would have been able to review them in the KimKim trip plan to see the category of hotel and if you liked them or not. Karenina would have changed them if you didn't like them. I have reviewed your conversation in KimKim with Karenina and it was never specified that you wanted only 4-star hotels. Your request mentioned a mid-range budget, which can be 3 or 4-star hotels, depending on the location in the country. For example, hotels are much more expensive in Porto and Lisbon so in order to be respectful of your budget a mix of 3 and 4-star hotels was used. I understand that you were not happy with the hotel in Porto so within 30 minutes of letting us know you were rebooked at another hotel. We paid the difference in cost, the taxi ride and city tax at new hotel. We then upgraded you to a 4+ star hotel in Lisbon and paid the difference for that hotel. We upgraded you in Lisbon to give you something extra because you did not like the hotel in Porto not because we "thought better of it".

Regarding the bike tour in Porto. Again, this activity was booked from the beginning with Karenina and could have been changed at any time before the trip. However when you arrived to Porto, you decided that you did not want the bike tour, so within an hour the issue was solved and you were switched to a walking tour for the same day. On May 30th in the chat, you wrote "Yes. Arthur was a great tour guide and very personable".

On the 1st of Jun, you wrote that the guide had not arrived yet. You were answered immediately that since you were on a small group trip, you were advised that the guide was picking up other participants so to please allow him 10-15 minutes more to arrive. He arrived 20 minutes late. This was the last message I had from you for the rest of your trip.

H10 Villa de la Reina Boutique Hotel in Madrid is a 4-star hotel with a 4,5 out of 5 rating on Trip Advisor and the same on Bookings. The hotel selected the specific rooms you were in. That is fantastic that they were able to give you a different room that you like better. The Petit Palace Puerta de Triana which you gave a 4-star review is actually a 3-star hotel. That is great that the hotel staff gave you dinner reconditions. Also in your itinerary, Karenina gave you a list of 22 restaurant recommendations. In fact, there were restaurant recommendations given for each city.

Hotel Casa 1800 Granada is a 3-star hotel with a Trip Advisor rating of 4,5 out of 5. It is a boutique, historic hotel so all not all the rooms have elevator access. Again, the hotel selects which specific room, however if Karenina had know that you needed an elevator she certainly would have advised the hotel to give you room with elevator access. You rated the Dom Carlos Park Hotel without having seen it or stayed there.

The Insider's Tour of Madrid is a quick 2-hour visit to Madrid. A more in-depth guided tour can be booked but that is what Karenina selected. I can only assume that she did so to respect your stated mid-range budget as the more indepth private tour is much more expensive. Guided visit of Alhambra, you paid for a small group visit not a private one, you are able to view on your trip plan in KimKim.

Your guide in Lisbon, Filipa Santos has been a guide for more than 4 years and has 5-star reviews. We have never had a bad review about her.

Our team at Espiritu Travel was always available to you by phone. Our phone number is listed in the platform on KimKim and your travel documents. In addition, we have a 24-hour number which is available to you while you were travelling. At no point was a call made to us or an indication that you wanted us to call you. Each of the issues that arose during your trip were resolved in a timely manner.
I wish you and Stephen all the best,
Raquel

Very frustrating and unnecessary rudeness. The boat itself was ok- a bit crowded. The fish were not particularly extraordinary. The beach was nice enough, but there was no where to escape the sun. This was the worst hotel of our entire trip. First they gave us a room where we would have to go up about 10 steps just to get to the bathroom at night. As that didn't work for us, they offered us the room next door and told us to go on out and tour the city. When we came back they had only a really inferior room with lights that were shining on my wife all night because the cover was gone. They offered to put a towel over the light but never did. Then it got worse. We felt the problem was with the people at the reception who just didn't care.

It was a very worthwhile experience, with a good guide and an amazing place. You get so much more out of a private tour like this than we could have gotten on our own. The only thing is that she didn't want to go to the Jewish areas which happened to be very interesting for us. We ended up seeing it on our own later. She could have used the last half hour to wander the streets of the Jewish area but instead she left us in the Alhambra which was also worthwhile to see on our own after the tour. She should have made contact with us and made it clear she was expecting us to drive before we parked.

Day was amazing! Mostly because of Paollo the guide. As a Sinatra local, he knew all of the best places to see and visit. Took us to a few Lisbon locations we had not seen on Tuktuk tour that enhanced our understanding of the history and culture. Beautiful scenery. Unique lunch experience. An incredible day. A smooth and enjoyable drive from Porto with a friendly and enjoyable guide. The boat ride was nice but not incredible as the hour length only allowed for a short trip around the bend. Wineries and tastings were terrific and we ended up buying a few bottles of our favourites. I didn’t book as much through Kimkim as perhaps other travellers do, but all the activities we booked through Kimkim were professional and informative, and definitely enriched our time in Spain. I appreciated what Marta booked as it did save me some time. I loved that our trip was in one place in an app, including accommodations, activities and restaurants that I booked myself. Marta even verified that I had reserved our rental car from the right location. I found the direct message on the app reassuring, and did use it a couple of times. However, for some reason, I lost the “message” ability at one point and even access to the app. I could still get needed info and even communicate with the specialist through email.

Barcelona

Our tour guide, Rory, shared a lot of info on Catalan history that we would not have otherwise been aware of. We covered lots of ground and sites within the Gothic Quarter, El Born, Ciutadella Park, and the waterfront, Cycling was difficult, however, due to the large number of tourists always present in Barcelona. E-bikes we’re not necessary since there were not many chances to actually cycle much. The bikes definitely did enable us to cover more sites than being on foot though. One disappointment with this tour was that we ended at a tapas resto that was not El 4 Gats, as specified. The food and wine was very good where the tour ended, but we had to go to El 4 Gats on our own after because this was somewhere we specifically wanted to experience. I will add that our tour guide, Rory, was very helpful during the tapas part of the tour in giving all participants tips on restaurants, etc, for the rest of our trips. He even wrote them down on a little card for each group:)

Quality of Experience
Maybe do the tour earlier in the morning when there might be somewhat fewer people around?

Rory was helpful and enthusiastic.

E-bikes are not necessary. Regular bikes would be fine.

This was a great experience. Guides were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and funny. The market visit was at a smaller market, not Mercat Central, which was okay. In the kitchen after we were all put to work with different tasks to make a traditional Venetian paella, and we had fun with others in the group. It’s the first time I’ve geared tomatoes! This is definitely an experience we can bring home with us to share:)

We loved this visit to Mas Oller winery. A beautiful place just to walk around. Our winery tour was really interesting with an explanation of the process from vine to bottle, and challenges they’re experiencing due to warmer summers. The tasting itself was longer than expected (which was fine!) with generous samples of each wine ( if I recall it was 5 in total). One of our party decided not to finish all their samples because somebody had to drive after! We had fun with some other people on the tour as well.

Unfortunately we didn’t do this activity. The hour long drive to catch the boat, and again at the end of the day, combined with an early start, was more than we felt we were up to in the moment. We had been quite busy and we were enjoying this relaxing part of the trip in the Costa Brava One of our party also hadn’t been feeling 100% just previously and we were taking it slowly. We know we missed a beautiful tour and hope to return and try it again!

This proved to be a great, “ chill” activity for the last day of our trip. It was good to walk along The Ramblas on a Thursday morning, as our previous visit there was on a Saturday afternoon ( not recommended!) The guided tour of the Boquera Market, again in the morning, was enjoyable. Our guide explained about different Hans and traditional desserts, suggested where to buy cheese and olive oils…. For the cooking part, we made a seafood paella. We had already made paella in Valencia, but this was a different kind and so the process wasn’t the same. We took away some additional recipes to try at home. The location of the cooking class was in a lovely Barcelona flat above a busy square.

Quality of Experience
Market visit and delicious paella
