Authenticity

Fosshotel Baron has historical roots: part of the property is housed in Reykjavík's first concrete building, constructed in 1898. Originally intended as a dairy farm built by a French baron, the hotel's name and the street it resides, Barónsstígur (Baron's Path), are a nice little nod to its history. While some rooms feature late 1800s-style decor and reflect the property's history in its understated artwork and furnishings, others offer a more modern feel.

Fosshotel Baron enjoys a prime location in Reykjavík, an easy 3-minute walk to the hip Laugavegur street, renowned for its restaurants, bars, and boutiques, and a 7-minute walk to access the Sculpture & Shore waterfront promenade, leading you to the iconic "Sun Voyager" sculpture. Add another 5 minutes to your exploration, and you'll hit other popular attractions: Hallgrimskirkja, a church and one of the country's tallest buildings, and Harpa, the beautiful concert hall worth checking inside and out. The hotel sits on a quiet street, offering a peaceful reprieve from the bars a few blocks down.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The 120 rooms and suites at Fosshotel Baron vary greatly in style. Some appear outdated, with austere white walls, wall-to-wall carpet, and simple or antique furniture sets. In contrast, others are modern, with hardwood floors, contemporary dark furniture, and black accent walls. While some rooms are small and may feel cramped, they include the essentials, though they won't offer a small fridge like other larger units. A handful of rooms also have a Juliet balcony, though the views aren't great (street view, obstructed view of the Atlantic, or adjacent buildings). The largest of the rooms, the Family Suite, can accommodate up to six guests.
