A special shout out to Jessica, our guide in Medellin - despite running into a personal challenge, she put her focus to take care of us first and maintained a positive atmosphere. This trip definitely left us with nice memories, and we are deeply impressed by how Colombia has evolved from its troubled past into a thriving, beautiful, and enjoyable country.

This was our first experience using KImKim and it certainly won't be our last. All of the guides we worked with (Liz, Eddie, and Sofia) and their drivers were personable, knowledgeable and really helped us have a wonderful experience in Cartagena. We really appreciated Wendy checking in on us, even on our "free day" to make sure everything was OK. It was a great feeling knowing that we had some local folks looking out for us on our travels to a country we had not visited before.

Colombia was very lush and hilly. It was intriguing that I didn’t see a single Arian during my entire trip. I guess Colombia is under the radar for the Asian tourists?

Overall the trip was rewarding and enjoyable.

First the hike itself was beautiful and I enjoyed the activity and reaching the hummingbird house. I would highly recommend this as an activity. The reason it is a low rating was due to the guide. It became very clear early on that our guide was not just leading us but working a second job during his time with us. He told us how he is opening up his own company and kept stopping to film for this new venture. This caused us to take significantly longer and was frustrating at times. Overall we love this as an activity but encourage the use of a different guide in the future.

Most of the accommodations were good. One jungle lodge was very remote, difficult to reach, had no hot water so we would have preferred only one night there. Another hotel, in Santa Marta, was very nice but we arrived late and left early so didn't have time to enjoy the facilities. Plus the hotel was near the main square and music blared until the early hours of the morning. The hikes were quite challenging but we were fit enough, though tired.

Miraflores Boutique Hotel

The hotel is on the west side of the island and doesn't have a beach. It is about 15 minutes by taxi into the town. We had a lovely room above the reception with a big balcony. The room was spacious with a narrow but nice bathroom. Breakfast was good and they have a restaurant (limited choices) for dinner. There are some local restaurants in walking distance with better food choices. The grounds are big and there's a pool but we didn't use it as the weather was wet. The only downside was the constant traffic noise as we were in Room 2 close to the road.

Reserva Natural Tierra Adentro

Gorgeous setting in the jungle with birds, rescued animals and great views. The room was basic with a concrete floor and thatched roof, a small bathroom and a balcony. There was no hot water in the shower but the Wifi was strong. There is an outdoor open eating area with restaurant. Getting to the lodge is an adventure in itself. First a winding mountain road from Santa Marta to Minca, a small village. Then another 40 minutes on some of the worst roads I've ever seen (and I travel a lot). The remote setting was lovely but it would not be a place to have a medical emergency as it's so far from help. We had two nights here, one would have been enough.

Ecohabs Tequendama Parque Tayrona
Cartagena

The location is right out of a travel magazine. We stayed one night in Room 4 perched high on the hill with a view to the ocean. However, there were a lot of inconveniences. First, it was a long walk from the reception to the restaurant, then 106 steps up to the room. Luckily we were fairly fit but it would have been strenuous for people older than us. Secondly, the bedroom was upstairs in the cabin. The lighting in the room was poor and I needed to use a flashlight to get things out of my suitcase. To use the bathroom, you have to go outside and downstairs (avoiding any rain). Not ideal for an older couple who need to go to the bathroom at night. Bring a flashlight. There was a coffee maker tucked away in a dark corner next to the bathroom, but no complimentary coffee, only sugar was provided. There were good breakfast choices in the impressive restaurant but service was slow and we waited about 40 minutes to get our breakfast while other guests who arrived after us got their food, ate and left. It was definitely an experience to stay in such a gorgeous place but it is better suited to younger people.

This trip was almost like a dream vacation! We were extremely pleased with the care and attention to details from Wendy and Julieth at The Colombian Trip- both in the planning process and during our trip.

Colombia is one of the most beautiful countries I've visited. We loved the country, the people, the natural beauty and the architecture, the fashion, the gastronomy and above all the tour guides were all amazing!

We felt safe every step of the way. Having the tour company suggest and plan the day trips and the sightseeing was very helpful. This was the most spontaneous trip I've ever been on and it's because we felt confident of the Kimkim and The Colombia Trip team to keep us not only safe, but in 4 and 5 star accommodations and they sure delivered!

The tour guides were all college educated, knowledgeable and proud to share their history and culture. They were kind and patient and easy going to make last minute changes to accommodate our needs. Even when one of us had a fall and felt it was wise to be seen at a medical clinic, Wendy sent a translator to the clinic to accompany us. That was not part of the plan of course! But knowing they were on top of everything at all times was golden!

We had private drivers accompanied by the tour guides or translators at all pick ups and transfers once we landed into Bogota. We had 3 domestic flights and many transfers in between the cities and regions we visited. The Amazon River was incredible too. Sergio Leon was with us for the entire 3 days of the Amazonas. He stayed in the same hotels as us and accompanied us on the ferry and the private boat ride into the Amazon River and provided rain boots for our walk into the rainforest and full of wisdom about the region as he guided us (alongside indigenous guides).

Luis Mi Barreto was our guide in Bogota. Clau Rodriguez was our guide in Medellin. Keyla Merino was our guide in Cartagena. They were all absolutely incredible!

I would highly recommend working with KimKim and The Colombina Trips for a seamless travel experience. All you need is to open your wallet (haha), pack your bags and get on the plane. The rest is all taken care of.

Waira Suites
Leticia

This was the best hotel option in Leticia. The owner/ manager, Ismael, was the only person who spoke English. We left our documents and valuables with him along with our luggage in safe keeping so we could travel light to Puerto Narino. He also made sure we enjoyed our on site restaurant experience.

Waira Selva Hotel

They upgraded us to a different room with the view of the Amazon River! What more could we ask for! It was just what we expected. Basic, clean, rustic accommodations. Friendly staff, who did our laundry every day @ no charge. Of course we tipped everyone generously along the way.

Casa Don Luis by Faranda Boutique
CARTAGENA

This was absolutely THE BEST boutique hotel I've ever stayed in!!! It's like stepping back in time... and right out of a movie scene! Incredibly charming, old world Colonial, arches, pools, friendly staff who greet you with welcome drinks as soon as we walked into the lobby. Highly recommend a stay here.

Patio del Mundo
Medellín

In a desirable El Poblado neighborhood. Walking distance to chi chi restaurants and clubs. Beautifully decorated and charming landscape design. The phone in the room didn't work. So if we needed to reach the front desk staff, we had to use WhatsApp to reach them. But that meant we were texting at odd hours and not knowing if that individual was on duty or not. Breakfast was lovely in the back patio. Friendly staff.

Keyla Merino was our tour guide here. This was absolutely a highlight tour of our trip to Cartagena. She was so proud to tell us about the troubled past in Colombian history and the positive changes to make the country safer but also the economic impact of tourism and international investors on the locals and their resistance on gentrification.

My trip to Cartagena was absolutely incredible all due to the careful planning of Margarita and her team! From the early stages of planning, I was unsure if it was safe for a solo traveler, but I didn't want to give up the dream to go. Margarita was incredibly attentive and patient with me through all of my concerns and reservations. She is truly the reason I was comfortable enough to experience such a beautiful, hospitable city.

Liz was also a local guide, who would constantly check in with me and greeted me on my first day at the hotel. She is fantastic.
The hotel selected was absolutely beautiful- highly recommend. Participating in a cooking class and salsa dance class, helped me immerse in the culture.

My flight was cancelled while I waited at the airport. Liz and Margarita both made themselves available to arrange additional car services and book hotel reservations for the extra nights I had to spend in Cartagena. They were both readily available to help me and ease all of the stress I had from a flight cancelation.

I cannot express my gratitude enough for Margarita and Liz making my trip so wonderful! If you are even slightly thinking of going to Colombia, you should do it! I loved my adventure and the warmth of the people there.
