Best of Ubud, Bali

Surrounded by rice paddies and forested hills, Ubud lies in the verdant interior of Bali and is best known for its vibrant craft traditions. You’ll find a wide range of galleries, markets and boutiques, which showcase the work of local artists and artisans. The small town (with a population of around 12,000) and the surrounding countryside are atmospheric places to explore with an assortment of ancient temples along with forested reserves where you can see wildlife. Many visitors come for relaxation and rejuvenation, and Ubud has yoga studios, plant-based restaurants and sustainable spa resorts. 

On day trips outside of Ubud, you can visit architecturally striking temples like the Pura Tirta Empul, where devout Hindus have visited its holy springs for over 1,000 years. You can head out on walks through the rainforest and cool off at hidden waterfalls along the way. Cycling tours take you through photogenic landscapes, such as the Tegallalang rice fields, with lush terraces stretching high above the valley floor. Ubud is also a great place for a cooking course, and you can learn all about unique spices and market-fresh ingredients while preparing (and enjoying) a Balinese meal.
