Pablo our driver in Puerto Natales was kind and welcoming. Paulina and Heme were patient guides with 4 middle aged Americans and 4 teens! We felt safe and well served and the view for the base of the Towers was amazing. Our teens saw a puma and the adults survived the walk. The glacier tour was wonderful and a nice down day between two active hiking days. Our rental house was amazing with outstanding views! We loved our time in Chile!

From day one the welcome was warm and the individual rooms were private and peaceful. Being only one block from the main street was a plus. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are clean, and the beds are very comfortable. The hotel had a great restaurant with excellent food. The only slight negative was we asked for late checkout and they said we had until 1pm when we checked in but called our teens room at 1215pm the next day and told them they had to leave and locked us out of our room at 12 so we had to get new keys to get our stuff out of the room. Better communication at the front desk level would have avoided this issue.

Hi Susan,

I'm happy to hear that both families had a great time during your 9-day trip getting to explore Atacama and the Patagonia 😊

I will pass along your praises to our guides and drivers that can really make an impact during trips and we are happy they were able to make a positive one for you! And thank you for the feedback about the hotels; it's super important for us to now how they're operating day to day so we can make improvements for future travelers.

Don't hesitate to reach out in the future for another trip to Chile. Maybe a visit to Easter Island? 🗿

All the best,
Jesse

We had an amazing trip to Chile - the country is truly spectacular. Our travel coordinator Marcela was excellent, she listened to what we wanted and adapted the itinerary as needed when torrential rains and an injury required some shifts. She even brought over some medications and offered to help in the hospital with translation after a badly sprained ankle interrupted our plans. She also coordinated in-country travel for us after our initial start in Argentina and not having to worry about airport pick up and drop off was very helpful.

We enjoyed hiking, white water rafting and kayaking in Puerta Varas - Ko Kayak was awesome for rafting (we have done this a lot and the rain made this the best rafting trip we have ever done). Our guides everywhere were great - especially Catalina (rafting), Juan Miguel (hiking and planned biking until ankle accident) and Paz (kayaking on Reloncavi fjord). We stayed at the Kalfu Hotel which was a good location for walking and offered excellent breakfasts and comfortable rooms.

In Puerta Natales we did 2 days of trekking in Torres del Paine with W-Circuit and they were great. Tour guides Alex (3 shorter hikes of 2 hours each) and Pablo (Base Torres Hike) were very good. Come prepped with the right shoes and gear and be prepared for 4 seasons in one day. We saw quite a few people turn around on the Base Torres hike which is long (22km). We then kayaked and rock climbed with Jorge from Patagonia Adventures. He was superb and we especially enjoyed pushing our comfort boundaries with the rock climbing which was awesome (we have never climbed outdoors before). We stayed at the Weskar Lodge for most of the time (truly superb food) and had one night at the Best Western which was much better than that chain is in the US.

Our final night in Santiago, we had dinner in a local home with Gloria and Leo - great food and wine pairings and even better conversation. We highly recommend.

Their meals were truly outstanding - we hadn't expected to stay at the hotel for dinner but the food was so good that we ate 3 dinners there. Adaptable and energetic guide for hiking Great guide from La Comarca who was able to adapt to multiple changes to planned hiking and biking trips. Juan Manuel picked us up and took us to a great breakfast place after our early morning flight from Santiago. It was pouring when we arrived and the road to the Alerce Andino national park where we were going to hike was blocked by mudslides from the rain. We went to plan b which was hiking near the Petrohue cascades (good to see) and then plan c which was going up the Mount Osorno Volcano where we had our lunch. We were at the TeSki chalet. Great food and snacks. Juan Manuel is extremely knowledgeable and fun to talk with. Highly recommend for adaptability, tremendous local knowledge and great personality. We were disappointed that due to weather and a sprained ankle we couldn’t do a planned bike tour with him.

Fantastic fjord kayaking trip Our travel agent arranged a full day kayak trip on the Reloncavi Fjord from Puerto Varas Our guide, Paz was outstanding. She has a passion for the region and outdoor education and knew a ton about plant and animal life. Her English was very good and she just radiated positive energy and enthusiasm. The truck was comfortable for the ride (1.5? Hours) and we wore full wetsuits and this was our first time in a double kayak with a rudder. The fjord and surrounding towns were lovely. We had perfect weather for pics, saw seals and birds and turquoise water. One of the highlights was our guide Paz who was very passionate about the area, the people and the natural surroundings. Highly recommend. We had lunch at a Chilean family’s home and got to tour their small farm. Really fresh food (lamb stew, greens and bread) before continuing our trip. This was a friend of Paz and seeing the relationships between Paz and the people whose home we visited and ate in was lovely! A bonus was our driver then took us up the Osorno volcano as the previous days had heavy rain so we couldn’t see anything. What a truly gorgeous location!

Excellent trip. We were on a tour run by W-Circuit. Bus driver was speedy but safe We were picked up at 6:30 am and the bus was comfortable. Trekking poles were provided which helped a lot (we had never used before). The first trip we went on 3 roughly 2 hour hikes to the cave paintings, the waterfalls near Las Cuernas, and the Mirador Condor. We hike a lot and enjoyed these. Great start to our stay in Puerto Natales. These hikes were moderate but challenging in terms of vertical gain and strong winds (at one point we were bent over nearly double at the Condor hike!). Our guide Alex was knowledgeable and funny and very good pointing out plants and animals. A herd of guanacos came out right by us and we all got stellar pics. Beautiful intro to the park which truly has stunning scenery at every turn.

Excellent trip. We were on a tour run by W-Circuit. Bus driver was speedy but safe and we did two tours with the same company two days apart. We were picked up at 6:30 am and the bus was comfortable. Trekking poles were provided which helped a lot (we had never used before). After that we did the Base Torres Hike but with a different guide named Pablo. Great hike but long (6 hours minimum) and very crowded at times. The hard thing is that people hike at vastly different rates. Our guide had us go ahead and wait in places (great system). We saw tons of birds and even a puma at the end! Again, breathtaking scenery and rewarding. Some people may not be prepared for the steepness of this hike and be unable to finish as were several folks on our tour. Acclimate a bit, have good boots, and be used to hiking—this is 22km (13.7miles) RT!

Quality of Experience
Beautiful park with stunning scenery.
Food
Nice to have options to buy food along the trail (we got drinks on teh way down) and snacks at the end before our bus ride home.

This was AMAZING! Our second trip with Jorge was rock climbing. We have only done indoor climbing gyms before and this was awesome. This was our first ever outdoor climbing experience. We did 4 routes. Very well explained, safety conscious and exciting and Jorge involved us in everything- belaying etc. Tea mid-route was very neat! We were visited multiple times by condors checking out what we were doing. Our kids were amazed by our pics (one climbs and he was impressed). The rock formations were cool to see and climb on - we learned a lot and this definitely pushed our comfort boundaries which is what we wanted.

Quality of Experience
Jorge's knowledge and how he included us in jobs and taught skills was awesome. Beautiful location and the condors were really a nice lucky feature - about 7-8 were watching and circling as we climbed.

This was a cool thing to do for our last night in Santiago. We were picked up by our host and his friend Felipe who was our guide for the night. The food was excellent and teh conversation was even better. They are warm and gracious hosts and very welcoming. Felipe did a great job explaining and translating as needed (we enjoyed practicing our Spanish) and we talked about all kinds of subjects. Kim and Andy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. It was a pleasure helping you plan your trip, and I’m so happy that despite some bad weather and the foot injury, you were still able to enjoy all the activities we arranged together. I've extended your comments to each guide and hotel.

I’m also glad to hear that you saw so many condors and were lucky enough to spot a puma—what an incredible experience!

Gracias y muchos saludos!

Wishing you all the best,
Marcela

Arriving late in the day and tired at an airport, one always wonders, will someone be meeting me as promised. There was never a cause for concern with Kimkim, all of the logistical arrangements were on time and perfectly organized.
I must also mention that my guide for a day tour in Santiago, Hernan Rivas Diaz, was among the best that I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with.
Based on my experience in Chile, I will happily book future travel with Kimkim.

I had a particular interest in Chilean history leading up to and following the military coup in 1973, and my guide Hernan Rivas Diaz was aware of this beforehand. The day spent with him was like walking through the pages of a history book, not just about the 1970's but ranging back as far as the Pleistocene and through to today. He also found me a good place to exchange money and we enjoyed a pleasant lunch of empanadas at an outdoor restaurant. He is one of the finest guides that I have ever encountered in all of my travels.

Overall the trip was well planned with lots of tours and things to see and do. Here are my comments in more detail:
- we planned out own 2 weeks in Bocas del Toro prior to the schedule that KimKim (Jessie) set up for us. In hindsight 1 week would have been more than enough time in this area. It is definitely a party area with lots of young people but the area also needs better care and maintenance. We were not impressed with the amount of garbage littered everywhere.
-thank you Jessie for arranging transportation from Bocas to Boquete. While Jerry the driver was very friendly I thought he drove a bit too fast to feel safe on some of the roads but all was well, we arrived safe and sound
- we would have loved at least 2 more days in Boquete! We didn't have time to really explore the town or some of the interesting hikes in the area. Jessie please rethink how many tours you book in a day: after a long drive to get there, we were scheduled for a night tour of the jungle - thankfully it was postponed until the next night due to rain. In addition, I had NO IDEA how hard the hike up to Baru volcano would be and that it would start at midnight (thank goodness the night tour had been cancelled). While I had trained for the hike, at about the 8th km my groin 'popped'. The guide encouraged me to go on even though I told him I was in pain and felt a bit faint. I made it up another 2 kms before I said that this was crazy and that I needed to go back (I knew that if I continued to the top, I would NOT be able to make it back down). In hindsight, given my age, I should have booked just for the hike up and then had a ride down. The guide Daniel, was nice but too young. He didn't listen to me when I told him what I was feeling, he walked ahead of me and wasn't even an emotional support and someone to talk to. Also the headlamp I was given did not have strong batteries and I had to use my cell phone to see plus no option of hiking poles! For the price those things should have been included (I couldn't bring my hiking poles with me on the plane).
- my husband loved the hanging bridges hike and would recommend that again. He said the guide was knowledgable and friendly.
- I would pass on Los Cangilones Canyon: it was crowded (buses of people came in) and was dirty with litter left behind. It didn't feel really pleasant. The guide Luis was very nice and he generously brought us water and fresh fruit which was amazing.
- We all really liked the short walk into the waterfalls as the water was clean and fresh. Again as a group we did pick up a fair amount of garbage. There was some miscommunication between guides. Since the night hike was cancelled a second time, we were suppose to add on the hot springs but Luis didn't know anything about it. Thankyou Jesse for reimbursing us for that cost.
- In hindsight, there were too many tours booked for Boquete leaving us feeling quite tired.
- Carlos, driver, picked us up in Boquete and took us to get our rental vehicle in David. RAVES to Carlos!!! excellent driver and he very kindly waited over an hour while we did all the paperwork for the rental - he didn't leave us until he knew we were set to go.
-LOVED Magic Mountain Inn in Las Lajas. Very clean and new. Beautiful views and great breakfasts. And the owners pointed us in the right direction for great food - local pizza place was fantastic and one of the best meals of the trip was at Naturelamente restaurant which the owner made the reservation for us.
- Driving directions to Santa Catalina led us to an extra 3 hours of driving as a bridge was out on the route suggested, not fun.
- Hotel Sol y Mar was very comfortable and the dinners in the restaurant were excellent! The trip to Coiba National Park was excellent and the boat driver went out of his way to ensure that we saw dolphins, tuna jumping, a flock of pelicans flying over the water and some brown footed boobies sitting on a log in the middle of the ocean.
- Again directions to get to Valle de Anton were challenging (there were no road signs to guide us).
- The Golden Frog Inn was great - clean and comfortable. The town of en Valle was quaint with some good restaurants. It also felt good to have a little cooler weather as a break.
- Edwin, driver in Panama City, was excellent. We were 45 minutes late getting the car rental place but he was there waiting with a smile on his face (probably cause we looked a bit shell shocked at the traffic in the city - crazy).
- Was not impressed with the Hilton Garden Inn. There was a HOT tub on the roof but no swimming pool to relax in. The front desk couldn't break a $100 bill for us (not could the restaurant even though we were going to buy something) so we had to go to the casino. Also the location wasn't great. Suggestion: book a hotel in the old town. A much more interesting area to stay.
- LOVED our tour guide, Eduardo. The City Tour was excellent - saw so much of the city and learned much of its history plus the canal of course.
- I would pass on the Panamena Night Tour. The food wasn't very impressive and felt like we just went to some tourist areas and didn't really get a feel for the culture to the food. It was really disappointing.
- LOVED the Soberania National Park Tour! That was so much better than I expected!!!
- Edwin was ready and waiting for us for the early morning drive to the airport and we arrived safe and sound and in plenty of time for our flights.

As I said overall a really great tour as we got to see so many different places in Panama . Maybe space the tours out better and be super aware of the ages of the travelers and ensure that they are all aware of how much so of these tours will take. We came home very tired as it was so active but feeling very glad we saw as much as we did.

Jesse, thank you for being so responsive while we were traveling and different issues came up.

Really liked that this was a little more rustic (built on the side of a hill which was a little challenging walking up all the steps) and the view from our shared deck was amazing. The best thing about this place was the manager Gino Testo and the chef Arlin Camarena. Gino couldn't have been more attentive and helpful - he works nonstop (I was exhausted watching him) and he consistently wanted to ensure that we were having a great time. Arlin prepared amazing fish and seafood dinners - we were not tempted to eat at any other restaurants in the area because we were sure that they wouldn't top what Arlin prepared. The only reason that I didn't put 5 stars was that on our second day there, the driveway was being repaired and we couldn't drive off the property to do some more exploring. We did go for a walk but were unable to get to the surfing beach which was disappointing. I am sure with the driveway repaired, all is goof.

I asked the night before I was to be picked up "if I could do this". At midnight when picked up, I asked the guide "can I do this". Having never done a hike like this (but I did a lot of training at home before coming down there), I had no clue what to expect. The guide, while nice, was ill equipped to 'hear' me when I said that I was in pain, that I was concerned about how I would get back down if I made it to the top. I was given a headlamp that lacked good batteries and had to use my cell phone since we started the hike at midnight and it was pitch black. No hiking poles available either. I was actually doing quite well until km 8 when my groin 'popped' - very strange as that has never happened before and was VERY painful. The guide encouraged me to go further even though I told him I was in pain and a bit dizzy. On we went for another 2 kms and which point I said that I could make it for the remaining 3 kms but would never be able to get back down so we needed to turn around. The guide walked 4-5 m's in front of me so wasn't offering any moral support. Finally at one point as 4x4 trucks were bringing tour groups up the mountain, the guide asked me if I would be willing to pay one of the drivers to let me ride with them. I jumped at the chance since I was in tears from the pain in my groin. Thankfully the last truck had room for one person. I never made it to the very top as I was in too much pain but I got as close as the truck could go so was happy about that. Thankfully I was fine within 48 hours and didn't damage myself but given the cost and my own expectations (rightly or wrongly), I was very disappointed in the lack of medical awareness and support

However, the guides we had for the week were not experts but more generalists which took away from the experience. My previous experience with KimKim had high quality guides for each excursion. The issue is that KimKim hired a local tour company rather than taking the time to find experts for each excursion. We had 6 excursions - one we didn’t get lunch, one lunch were very plain sandwiches, nothing else, and one didn’t have a no vegetarian option even though it was confirmed multiple times that there would be. I would also say that the communication was lacking. We Would have liked more detail as to what to expect for each excursion. As indicated, My first experience with KimKim was phenomenal, this one was lacking. Luckily Panama is a beautiful country, people are friendly , and food is fabulous, otherwise the trip would have been a disappointment.

This trip to Chile was for four of us. We are experienced travelers (including two prior trips to Argentina) and it is from that perspective that we have unqualified praise for Lorena and her team. We provided a general idea of what we wanted to do, she provided options and then helped us make final decisions. With only minor exceptions, (which we have already told her about) everything she booked for us was perfect--the lodging, the tours, the boat trip and the transfers. We had one transfer fail to show at the Balmaceda airport, but she had us rebooked with someone else within 30 minutes. Also, we had some itinerary adjustments along the way, including adding a land transfer to Argentina.
Lorena was just super helpful with everything
Other Highlights:
-- Soledad, our guide in Santiago and Valparaiso was top notch. We really enjoyed the two days we spent with her.
--Dinner with Gloria: We felt so fortunate to be able to enjoy a home cooked meal in Glorias home. This feels like a special touch that most travelers don't get.
--The Skorpios Cruise: The perfect way to experience the fjords and archipelago of southern Chile. The crew and program on the ship was very high quality.
--Vicente Perez National Park Tour: Our guide Christian was excellent and proved invaluable in solving a minor medical issue one of us had in Puerto Varas
--Transfers: We had a lot of them and with the one exception noted above, they were perfect. The drivers were on time, interesting to talk with and helpful
